E70 privacy glass question + pic request

Hi everyone…

Does anyone know what the stock tint/privacy glass % is, roughly? 35-40?

And does anyone have any pictures of the front windows tinted to match the original rear %?

I'm not a huge fan of tint but looking to potentially do something with the front windows to match the rears. Definitely not going any darker than stock.

Thanks in advance for any input and/or pictures.

Can't tell u the exact. But if ur not planning on a DIY just take it to the tint place and say match it. Make sure you pull down the passenger pull-up shades.. If u have black interior by default it will look dark & good..looking in youll be able to see the outline of the person(you).. I keep my shades up which have my rears looking alil darker.

It's roughly 35%.

I had mine done at the dealer and it matches perfectly.

I'm curious as well. Not a tiny fan either but can't stand the mis-match either. Sounds like the dealer or a tint shop could match. All the pics on Google image when searching this make it look way too dark imo.

Will definitely be looking for a vehicle with zero tint when it's time to let my e70 go and maybe do an aftermarket uv protection.

Accutint or any decent tint shop in seattle can help you with this. They can put the film right up to your window to show you in person.

Thanks…what % is that? Is that stock rears + matching fronts, or darker?

Thank you - much appreciated Definitely seems darker than stock but is probably just the lighting, angle, etc.

20%? I'm pretty certain it's not that dark…someone above said 35.

I guess it doesn't really matter as long as it matches the rears. Mine aren't 20% in the back though.

I have the privacy glass and went to the tint shop and the gentleman measured the tint at 37%.

I wanted to tint the two front windows to match the rears.

He asked me two questions.

1. Do you want the tint % to match

OR

2. Do you want it to look the same?

I said the latter. With sun coming in from the windshield it's going to lighten up the front side so you want the two front windows to be darker.

He tinted my fronts 18% and they match the rears perfect. If you stand back and look you can't tell a difference at all. Hope that helps.

Edit* My x5 is jet black with cinnamon brown leather interior.

Ok, here's my input because I can't count how many threads I read regarding tint percentages... First things.. You can't ever judge pics online because you never know the ambient lighting conditions or whether or not the sunroof shade is open/closed (makes a big difference), or what direction the sun is shining from in relation to the vehicle. Also, each brand of film will specify the percentage, but they may not all look the same from different manufacturers. A 30% 3M film might look different than a 30% from Llumar. That all being said...

I use Llumar FormulaOne Pinnacle for all of my tint. The stuff has a lifetime transferrable warranty and is an exceptionally good quality film. In addition, it is ceramic so it won't interfere with cell phones, GPS, TPMS, etc... For the X5, I chose to match the OEM rear privacy glass and my tint guy went with 30%. Was it 100% perfect? No... Good luck with that. Can you tell that it wasn't 100% perfect?? No... With his light meter, it was just a touch darker than the OEM privacy glass, but I couldn't tell. Nor could my wife, or anyone else that I've mentioned it to. So, I did the Llumar F1 Pinnacle at 30% on the front two. But, I wanted additional heat/UV resistance, so I had all the side/back windows tinted with Llumar AirBlue 80, an essentially clear film with great resistance. It too is ceramic, and it is so clear that you can't even tell its there. I then went a step further and had the windshield and sunroof done in the same film (again for the heat). So, every bit of glass is tinted on the X5.

The films I have to me are just right, the same shade as the OEM privacy glass, not too dark at all, even for night driving. You can definitely see in the vehicle, but you do have some sense of privacy. As a reference, my M3 was done (previous owner) in Llumar ARC 15 (an older film, no longer produced) which to me is a little too dark. Its manageable, but I would've done the 30%. I had the windshield and sunroof done in the AirBlue 80 on this car as well.

And lastly, someone above mentioned Accutint in Seattle. You've seen my M3, and that is where it was tinted. I don't know the shop, but my local guy here is an extraordinary tint guy, and he said the work done on my M3 (by Accutint) was really really good. I asked him about removing it to replace it with 30%, but he said he wouldn't do it, the work is THAT good he said. I'm good with that.

Ok, here's a shot from this weekend. This is the best one I have regarding the tint, but at least you can see the light coming through all the windows. I honestly don't remember if the sunshade was open/closed on either vehicle, but this was on a bright sunny day, around 1pm, so the sun was pretty much overhead. And you can tell the M3 is a little darker than the X5, but not much at all. I think they look pretty good.

Jon - thanks for the replies to my thread…your ///M's look great BTW!

What do you know about 3M 'Color Stable?' I've already picked the shop where I'll have my X5 detailed next month…I'll have them do the detail, strip all the expired/yellowed clear bra, and possibly tint the front windows. Keep in mind I'm in Seattle….it never gets that hot or humid here, so quality of film may not be as critical as S. FL.? I just want something to match the front windows…that's it.

Personally, I think you pay a lot extra from 3M products. If heat and UV aren't a huge concern, go to Accutint and just tell them to put whichever film matches the closest.
