Sadly, no. Just a fake carbon wrap. Not the real thing, but doesn't look too bad.

After the hood, my M upgrade budget is in the red, lol.

Thanks!

Wheels are 22" x 10.5" 310 Style wheels I purchased from www.audiocityusa.com

They are not terribly expensive, chip easily (poorly painted) and are a little on the heavy side, but I wanted to do a proof of concept (on the wheel style) before shelling out big $$$ for a higher quality, lighter weight set. That's my next big spend on the beast Once I do that, I'll run these as my winter set.

Thanks! I have updated the parts list and the only thing left is the sound insulation. The new pad I ordered, while BMW say's is correct, well, isn't. I have another one ordered that is listed for the X6 hybrid that I am hoping will fit. Once that is verified, this project should be done

It won't work an any X5 but the M unless you plan to switch out the entire front end.

Picture update

Here are a couple of better pics of the new hood. I am still waiting for the new sound insulation pad to arrive (second go around with BMW. Hope this one is the right one!) Once that's done, I'll post under-hood pics and complete part list needed for this mod. Thanks.

It really is amazing how much the dome changes the look of the front. Thanks again for taking the plunge.

Project complete!

I have finally completed installing an aluminum X6M "power dome/power bulge" hood on my 2011 X5M!

For those looking to do this mod to their X5M, here is a complete part list:

Description: BMW P/N
Power bulge X6M facelift aluminum hood: 41617275285
Nozzle Array Window: 61667275175
Stop buffer (qty. 2): 51237265310
Under hood sound insulation: 51487216990
Plastic Rivet (qty. 32) 51481915964

(PLEASE NOTE: The list of parts above is comprehensive for this project on a 2011 X5M with a build date of 04/10. I cannot guarantee this on earlier or later year models.)

I was able to re-use the hood mounting hardware from my previous stock hood with the exception of the stop buffers and sound insulation. If you try to remove existing stop buffers, the embedded tabs brake off inside the old hood and they become un-usable. The sound insulation from a standard X5 or X6 or M will not work! The only sound insulation that will work is from the X6 Hybrid (part number reflected above). Below is a pic of the new sound insulation after install:

Also of note is that the new Nozzle Array Window has three nozzles as compared to the two nozzles on the original hood, so washer fluid is more evenly dispersed on the windshield with the new setup.

One last point, when I ordered the Nozzle Array Window, for some reason BMW tried to include several hundred dollars worth of extra parts their system said were necessary to complete the swap. THEY AREN'T NEEDED! The Nozzle Array Window plugged directly up to my existing harness and connectors and no other parts were necessary.

Before:

After:

With the right part numbers and a good body/paint shop, this is a great project to undertake. It really transforms the look of the vehicle from both the outside and the inside!

Thanks to everyone who has followed this project, and all the great questions and positive comments! Keep on mod'n!

On a related note, anyone need a stock 2011 X5M Alpine White hood?

FANTASTIC, The under hood looks just as well executed.
Now ... I'm gonna ask the question that everyone will have.

A.) Total cost of parts that were really needed to complete.

B.) Total cost after labor all said and done.

This may be something that is more comfortable as a PM ... But i bet fielding it here once will save a lot of messaging.

Thanks, for the top notch follow up and contribution.

Ok, Hal.
Rather than me being so lazy..
I added the listed part numbers into cart @ Getbmwparts.
I only came up with one question... Is there only one new nozzle needed, or all three?
If its all three the parts list totals.. 1828.22
thats before shipping, tax or coupon codes.

That looks spot on, just reduce the quantity of the Nozzle Array Window to one! Getting the hood painted cost me $675 at a local body shop. Your cost may vary

Regarding the nozzle question, it is a single part that includes wiring and hose harness and all three nozzles. It has two plugs (electrical and hose) that connect under the cabin filter housing on the right side of the vehicle.

Thanks for the breakdown!

Hal,

I am about to have this done to my X5 M since my hood was damaged recently.

I went to my shop this morning and they said they have done this to a few other X5 Ms and knew what parts were needed. They also said that they would need to blend the paint on the fenders to match the new hood paint. Did you have this done on your car? I am not too excited to have more paint work done than is absolutely needed.
