go to www.bmw.com/update
Type your vin. The answer will be: To perform the software update via USB stick, you will require the USB audio interface (included in optional equipment codes SA 6FL, SA 6NH, SA 6NK, SA 6NL, SA 6NS, SA 6AE, SA 6NR) as well as the Control Display and iDrive. This offer is only available for selected vehicles manufactured after March 2010. Your vehicle can be updated provided that you have the ‘Software update’ option on your ‘Settings’ menu in the Control Display. It appears that you don't have that option. It'll need an update from the dealer. Maybe someone with more knowledge has another idea. Maybe BMW makes a DVD update for iDrive. |

You need to go to the dealer for updates. This can get expensive, because it can take anywhere from 2 hrs min to 6+ hrs max. Some dealers charge by the hour to do that ...! Is it still under warranty? Better yet, schedule an appointment for the N63 engine campaign. Software updates are automatically part of the campaign.

As cool as it sounds to do the update and gain *something*, look at the release notes for the update. There is nothing worth updating to. Support for iPhone ios5? Support for a Galaxy S II?
If you don't have a problem now, it may not be worth your time to do anything with this... *I did the update when I first got the car, it did nothing beneficial to me that I could notice. |
