Heated Steering Wheel Issues
My 2011 is having two issues with the heated steering wheel:
1)On occasion, when I turn the heat on, the green light is on for a bit then turns off and continues to do so every time I turn it on again. This problem however does seem to go away from time to time when the car is turned on and off. 2)Ever since the green light went off on its own, I've noticed that the steering wheel is no longer "hot" but luke warm. There has been a drastic decrease in its temperature. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Cheers |

I had the same thing with my 2010 X5M.
Service Advisor said it was a low battery condition. I noticed that if I stopped the car, turned it off, and restarted, the wheel heat would typically work without cutting off. I always ran a triclke charger on the car when in the garage, so I don't think it was a battery charging issue. Battery drain issue, perhaps - a design defect that BMW would not fess up to. |

I had the same issue, turned out to be the notorious battery/battery cable issue. After they replaced the battery cable, all of my issues for the steering wheel and radio went away. Amazing what low battery voltage issue will create.

I have a 2012 X5D and it used to be too hot to touch after a few minutes. Now it is just lukewarm. It is still under warranty so I'll take it in soon and have the dealer have a look.
