2013 ZMX "M Performance package" – not exactly as advertised..??
I took delivery of my X6 50i last Wednesday. It is configured with the ZMX M Performance Package.
According to the documentation and the BMW on-line configurator, the ZMX package should include the increased power levels, 20” wheels, M steering wheel w/ paddle shifters, Stainless steel pedals, M foot rest and door sills, BLACK CHROME EXHAUST TIPS and BLACK FOG LIGHT SURROUNDS. My car has everything EXCEPT the Black Exhaust Tips and Black Fog Light Surrounds. They match the standard chrome / silver configuration of a non-ZMX 50i. I immediately pointed this out to the dealership – the black accents were one of the visual cues that I was planning on differentiating my new 2013 X6 from the 2009 X6 50i I traded in. (Most will not notice the difference between the Mineral Silver and Orion Silver – though I think it’s quite different. Also, the 20” 336 wheels are a quick visual giveaway). The dealer received another new X6 the next day, and just like mine it has the ZMX package. AND just like mine, it has regular chrome tips and silver fog light surrounds. I checked the ‘Build Your Own’ pictures again today on the BMW site – as soon as you click the ZMX option, the tips and fog light surrounds change to BLACK. This is the same for 35i and 50i cars… So it’s time to take a 2013 X6 census: Has anyone taken delivery of a 2013 X6 with the ZMX package? Does your X6 have the BLACK exhaust tips as advertised? Does yours have BLACK Fog Light surrounds?? Unfortunately, the M X6 cars have no fog lights and have totally different exhaust tips – so there’s no help there. This issue will only involve regular X6 cars with the ZMX package. Any input would be much appreciated. Cheers..! |

A bunch of people here have taken advantage of the M Sport and most are missing something (all are missing the exhaust, some are missing door sills, and I forget what the other thing is).
However, someone just posted a picture of a car that DOES have the blacked out exhausts (at least from what I can tell!) http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...c&aff=national

My X was delivered with the same issues. Dealer is working on it with BMWNA. All of this begs the question of, how do we know the power bump isnt missing as well??? Others here have had the same missing items. All dealers are waiting on BMWNA to resolve. The pic on cars.com seems to indicate the problem has been rectified at the factory. Doesn't help us first batchers though. And fog light surrounds shouldnt be black as per BMWNA. That is the euro version on the BMWUSA configurator. Go figure...

My 2 other thoughts on this are: 1) perhaps something in the cooling system or certainly the ECU is different and should show up on diagnostics or in the realOEM catalogue when the LCI E71 shows up; and 2) if the power bump isn't there is it a software only item so that the problem can be rectified? This is embarrassing for a company like BMW. I would have expected this on an italian exotic in the 80s... DRP |

Nothing under the hood showing this? I think on the other cars (the pre 2011 X6s had a plaque as do the last 4 door 3-series that had the option (they had a badge on the trunk).

Dealer told me part #'s are now available for black exhaust. Should be getting mine installed soon along with stainless go pedal. Still awaiting resolution on my request for confirmation of power bump.

It's just black tips. A performance muffler was never part of the package. The 5.0 doesn't really need it anyway. Sounds delicious as is.

I received my 2013 X6 35i with M performance package yesterday from the BMW Performance Center. All parts are correct except the gas pedal. Black exhaust tips, M door sills, and stainless steel pedals are exactly as ordered. Will resolve gas pedal issue with CA. Will post pic soon.

ZMX M Performance Package $3,900 2LM 20" Light alloy Y-Spoke wheels style 336-with performance run-flat tires (20x10.0, 275/40 R20 front and 20x11.0, 315/35 R20 rear) 330 Sport Package 760 Shadowline exterior trim 767 M Performance Package 775 Anthracite headliner 7XA M Sports leather steering wheel with paddle shifters Includes: exhaust tips in black chrome, M door sills, M foot rest, stainless steel pedals So most people are thinking that the gas pedal should be stainless as well. I seem to remember a picture of it too - somewhere.

Thanks for all the input on the thread folks. I see however that no one has mentioned the fog light surrounds… That still turns black on the On-Line Build-Your-Own Configuration Tool when you select the M Performance package… I really like the look of it blacked out. The silver one looks a bit odd to me with the new light position, especially if you have the black exhaust tips. I can find no written verification that this part should be blacked out for the M Performance package; other than the pictures showing it.
Maybe they will come along as an after-marked part – like the blacked-out kidney grills (which I intend to install when they are available). Neither the grills or the fog light bar are in my dealer’s parts system yet. If anyone sees any pictures of these, please post. Cheers, |

WELL - i'm glad i asked - i didn't even know that the gas pedal was supposed to be included in the mix. I did a quick search of the BMW accessories page, and there it is:
My car has the brake pedal as shown - just not the gas pedal in stainless steal. So I'll be adding this to my list of missing hardware... THANKS..! |
