Ski Bag

Well expecting my new X6 end a the end of march. Can't wait

One question for any one into skiing. I did not order the pull thru the center of the rear seat ski bag cause in Canada it comes with a premium of close to $2000.00. Yes you can only get it with a useless package for me.

Can I get one installed solo in the States?

Does it really accomodate 4 pairs of skis?

Thanks and thanks again for the advices I read here prior to buying

No, you couldn't put 4 skis inside! Unless you tear the skibag when you pull out the skis.

When we put 2 adult and 1 kid skis and bars inside, there was crowdy allready. And (very) hard to pull the skis out, too!

...it's much better to have a roof box and to put your skis, boots (and all other ice dirt, too) inside your roof box.

Agree better at the end of the day to just dump them in and close. Of course this brings up the question of what do the X6 roof rails cost.

From German pricelist:

Roof rails / black matt: 270 EUR, or
Roof rails / silver matt: 390 EUR

+ Roof Box approx. 350 EUR.

Thanks for the info, but would still like to know if the ski bag only can be retrofitted in the States, even if it means only two skis will fit in.

I don't like roof box myself as it takes away from the good looks of the car and the cleanliness of my skiing outfit. I can never get the skis out of the box without getting all the dirt on my ski jacket that I pick-up on the way up to the ski hills

I'm not sure for the States, but I believe it's impossible to retrofit ski bag in Europe.

Rear bench is in one peace originally, without a hole for a ski bag. I can't imagine how could you make a rectangular hole to put a ski bag inside.

Is the BMW roof box more expensive than a Thule? Don't care if it's written BMW on the box or not. And I need a roof box for other stuff, not only for skis. . .in summertime.

I would suggest just posting the url instead of the html code easier for folks to look. If you have the hatch in back of seat and cutout in front ( in armrest), so there is basically a hole if you remove plastic hatch on back of seat I guess it might work.

Put the skis in their own bag and stick them through the bare hole. Its a pain to fold up the car's ski bag and tuck it away when you are done using it.

How did you get that cut in the upholstery on the back? And the photo is of what car?

That's part of the ski bag option. It's a pass-through opening in the center of the rear seat. When you lower the center armrest in the backseat, behind it will be another cover that contains the ski-bag and also acts as the cover to the trunk. If you remove this cover, you have access to the trunk from the back seat. Inside the cover you will find the ski-bag neatly folded up. But as Kojak mentioned, it's a pain in the butt to fold the bag back-up to fit it back into the cover (or lid or whatever you call that thing).

If you do not order the ski-bag option when you purchase your car, you do not get that opening and hence it will be REALLY hard if you try to retrofit the car with a ski-bag. If you wanted to do so, you would have to replace the back rest (the 60% part) of the back seat as you can see in baufix's picture.

You're most welcome.

In case you haven't seen them, check out some of the pictures that some other forum members have posted of their X6 trailer hitch hookups. I think that BMW did a good job in integrating the trailer hitch in the lower bumper section. Just in case you are actually considering a trailer...
