Dinan Stage 2 kit for 12' N55 only $349?

Hello,
just purchased a 12' X5 35i and looking for tunes. Nothing silly, But I have read up on the Saga of the first N55 tunes from Dinan were pushing $3k when they first dropped, Now that my BMW is old and runs perfect, is this kit/tune a good start? if I get 55hp and 100ftlbs I would leave it at that. It looks like it includes the cable? Am I way off or are there better safe tunes for a N55?

Here is the link. Comments please.

They’re probably as good as any other off the shelf tune. Probably more conservative in their ratings. Even if your car is running good you’ll find anything that is marginal.

Personally I’d do it for that price.

MHD make anything for the x5 yet? I’ve looked at their website but it’s only cars on the support list so far.

It really doesn't/wont matter who you buy your tune from. The custom software that allows engine tuning and base tune all comes from one source. None of these tune shops have software developers on staff, people capable of cracking the engine code encryption, and understanding and modifying engine code. So they all buy the tune software kit and a base map from the same source.

All "tuners" start at the same place and have the same limitations that are in the tune software kit. There is at best very minor differences between tunes. The only "upgrade" is someone to personally customize the maps for your car. Otherwise the only difference really between tuners is price, marketing and fudge factors from their dyno runs.

So I'd just buy whatever is cheapest, has good local support (for when things break) or has the best customizer for your needs. Dinan has a good reputation and is a great price. Doubt there are any tunes that make a significant difference at the wheels with stock hardware.

Customization is unnecessary with stock hardware. this platform has been around for 10 years+ it's unlikely anyone at this point anyone has found a secret map to wring out extra performance from stock hardware.

Same thing happened with their x5m tune, I think it was around $3k, now it’s $299. I went with it because I figured it would be a cheap conservative tune. It comes with the cable but make sure your battery is hooked up to a charger and you have a perfect internet connection. The way you have to install it is not the best. It requires you to remove your current software, then download the new software (which takes 1-2 hours), then load it. It locks your DME at the beginning so if something happens you need to call them to unlock it.

Would a different version be better? Could I fake it with this till I get parts? Or even just leave it stock? I’m old with kids, bought this after I sold my 3.5ecoboost f-150 because I have a new f-150 for a company truck I free use of, and I got tired of the insane payment on a new truck. The f-150 was bone stock and felt way better than this x5. But I love the x and know it has potential. I’ll probably keep this forever and put money into whatever breaks. Interior is literally like new and paint is 9/10. Drives like new and gets 27.5 mpg!

Naw, I think the Dinan tune is as good as any for stock hardware and its an excellent price. Also most dealers know Dinan and have techs familiar with the changes it makes.

If I dont go with pure turbos I'll do the Dinan tune on my X5M. Ive never had a dinan tune, but many speak highly of them

I checked out the link, it looks like you only get the stage 1 unless you go to an authorized dealer. Is the stage 1 noticeable? I keep going back and forth on getting a JB4 from burger. this Dinan looks like an option though too...
