M Performance Package for 2013
BMW is now offering an M Performance Package for the 2013 X5 that adds 40 hp for the 50i and 15 hp for the 35i. It appears to be just a software change with added boost, but I am trying to get confirmation through my dealer. If it is software alone, it may be able to be retrofitted.

Is it possible to say but CPO BMW X5 from the dealer in US and then have them install M sport package or other options? I love leather covered dashboards, can BMW do that for me or am i better off finding a leather king who can do it???
Unfortunatelly i cannot afford to order brand new X5, so i want to find one that has every possible option and to be able to add some options to it. Any advice is appreciated. |

Ok it looks like it is not available to retrofit. As far as I know there are no engine changes with it, though, so it's more the equivalent of an ECU tune.
I'm going with a Dinan stage 2 update next week. I'm curious how much difference there is between a Dinan 101 hp gain and a stock 40 hp gain. I'd bet there isn't a lot of difference between all of these tunes, including the other aftermarket ones. I'd imagine the most noticeable area of improvement over stock will be in throttle response, which on the stock 50i (and 550i) is set up to make it feel like you have a flywheel made of stone that the engine has to move. That's all in electronic tuning, so that can be removed. It should be like having an M-mode again as on the X5M. The other area that will probably be noticeably better will be in top end acceleration. Even in stock form, the 50i is as fast as a 335is up to high speeds. With the tune, it will be much faster.

I really didn't have a chance to open it up.too much, but definitely feels quicker, but not.so much off the line. When at higher speeds going faster is ludicrous. In fact it was so fast I almost got pulled over by a State Trooper

Have you been able to confirm this? The 6er Gran Coupes have the same power specs and have new engine codes, N55HP and the N63Tu.

No, I haven't been able to confirm it...I just know that a retrofit kit isn't available for the '12s. The 650i Gran Coupe gets valvetronic but has different power specs (445 hp I believe), it isnt out yet, and it isn't an M car. This is an M performance package, so I would expect different and more aggressive tuning, which could easily add 40 hp.

I'd be really surprised if the tunes were drastically different, it looks like the N55HP is really only a tune as well given the information BMW has released on it, guess we'll have to wait until someone gets the 50i with ZMX to see what they have.

I should have my X6 5.0 with the M perf. pack in about a month or so. I'll certainly report back. It also increases the torque numbers as well as some cosmetic differences. My neighbor just got an X5 5.0 so I'll have a good comparison.

One of the main selling points of the stage 2 (which has been confirmed by many F10 550i members) is the significantly improved low end response in the first few gears. Most of them claim the initial lag feeling is gone with the stage 2. Stage 3 should be even better... Btw, PM me your location and if you would be interested in meeting up some time. Would love to compare your stage 3 with my 100% stock vehicle. Thanks. |

For some reason the hp for the X6 50i with the M Performance Pack is 430 vs 440 for the X5. That one is hard to explain.
Looking forward to hearing some impressions as people start getting them. Nyranger please also share more on the Dinan stage 3 as you drive it more.

True on the weight, but there are few vehicles that are faster off the line than an X5M, which weighs roughly the same. I'd hope to see the 0-60 for the 50i drop into the 4.5 second range with the stage 2 tune.

I remember the X5M I drove had "plenty" of punch off the line and from low speeds... the 50i is definitely less snappy down low. |

The BMW performance kit is supposed to be available a bit later in the year and will be applicable for years 2011-2013 for the 35 and the 50 (different kits of course).

That would be great. Where did you hear that? I was wondering why BMW only had the performance kit available for the X6 for a short time. Any news on any other performance upgrades they might make available?
