Scratched Windscreen

Can anyone help me?

The other day I returned to my car and a bird had sh*t right in the middle of the screen, directly in my line of sight when driving. Unfortunately the sun had baked the sh*t to the screen so I couldn't remove it with the wiper/washer.

When I got home, I sprayed glass cleaner on the spot and let it soak for a few minutes then began removing it with a sponge. However bits of the sh*t must have contained grit or shell and it has scratched my windscreen. I can't feel the scratches when I run my fingernail over them but they are very noticeable when sitting in the driver's seat.

I asked a friend who details cars to have a go at removing the scratches. He used Meguiars (sp?) 3 polish but the screen started becoming very hot and he was afraid that it would distort so he stopped. The scratches are still there!

Has anyone tried to remove scratches from a car windscreen before. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

there are things that say they remove scratches ( meguiar, etc) but I think you might end up doing more harm than good. The best I've found for removing bird shit is bug&tar remover , spray it on let it sit then "gently" rub with soft cloth and repeat.

In the past I have just had the windscreen replaced when there were enough scratches, pits, etc to annoy me. No matter what you do this is going to happen, unless car stays in garage.
