X6 Sunroof - Is it worth the money ?
X6 Owners,
What are your opinions regarding the X6 Sunroof. In the UK Sunroof is an optional extra costing approx £900!! I understand it is Standard spec in the US. What are your opinions regarding the sunroof ? Do you use it ? Does it lower the roof line internally to contain mechanism ? Is there much wind noise when open and driving ? Is it big enough ? Does it work with Comfort access ? / Central locking ? And more importantly would you pay £900 for it ? I only have a week or so decide whether to include in my options. Thanks in avance for your opinions |

IMO:
After reading your post I called my sales rep. to see if I can option to REMOVE the sunroof. I was driving a X3 and it had a panoramic sunroof which I loved but I feel the X6's small sunroof ruins the look of the vehicle. I wish it was an option here in North America. So I guess you know my feelings on the subject.

in USA sunroof standard not an option. As far is it worth getting guess it depends on where you live, if it rains all the time maybe not but if you live in place like California it's great.

Good option but small, compared to panorama roof on x5.
No more noisy than any sunroof. Was included in the car price, but would add if ordering With black leather interior x6 very dark inside, sun roof is a bonus. |

I agree, its not about having a roof that opens but more the fact that the glass alows more natural light and really brightens up the c**ckpit. I rarely open the roof, but always have the sunshade pulled back to allow the extra light in.

Sunroof can be useful in the summer, to give u a roadster feeling w/ everthing open/open.
No wind noise nor draft if u tilt open the back while u listen to good sound system. Deleting it would lower the c of g a little, but doubt it'll make any difference in the handling performance in an already heavy car. More advantage to have it imo. If the look bothers u then C.F. or paint the top black to match. Last edited by archwerks; 03-18-2010 at 07:34 PM.. |

Well decision has been taken for me. I got my VIN today wich means no more changes to the spec. Order spec frozen for vehicle build. No Sunroof specified.
I think this is a good thing. £900+ is a lot to pay for a sky light that will hardly be used. Plenty of light from windows even with black interior. In my considered opinion after looking and sitting in X6s with and without SR - The X6 looks better without the glass panel and Roof Rails breaking up the cool roof line. Thanks for all you your comments and opinions. |

I guess this isn't really going to help now but here are my two cents.
I wasn't sure about the sunroof to be honest. The first X6 we saw didn't have one and I loved being enclosed inside but my partner has a Z4M Roadster and he *loves* being outside. The X6 35d we took out for a test drive had a sunroof and although he wished it was bigger he really wanted it. I must admit it makes a huge difference inside, very light and no noise that we could notice at all. Worth £890 or what ever it was?? I don't think so!!! We managed to swindle it for free in our extras though so its been ordered The only thing that worried me was that we have ordered the X6 in Alpine white and as the sunroof is in black it would be really noticeable but its being built as we speak so its to late to worry about that. |

Pros:
1. Gives you extra light, 2. For smokers: Cigarett Smoke exhaust champer, Cons: 1. You really don't need it, 2. You get more dust inside, 3. You'll mess up your hair, 4. Noise, 5. Bird drops (if you lucky), 6. You'll get all the fumes n smell from trucks n cars infront, Lucky you didn't have it, I regret having sun roof on my X6 which I rarely use it. I live in hot n humit country all year round I must close all windows and turn on air con set at lowest temp and fan speed at auto all the time. |
