Dead spots in acceleration

Those of you with a 35 gas engine, have you noticed when you take off hard the car has somewhat of a lag/dead spots as the power ramps up?

It does not feel like turbo lag but more of hesitation.

I tried with DSC disabled and the same issue is there. It has been that way since I got the car two years ago. Seems to get a little better after warming up.

I was hoping a software update would smooth it out by now.

Try doing that while the gear in SPORT mode (S +/-) ...
Anyways..the vehicle is heavy..it needs alot of torque to accelerate from 0...Turbo starts working only after 60-70 km (RPM = 3).
but i think thats normal in all cars including mine !!
But if you are talking about a small delay between the accelerator pedal and response of the car..then YES..thats there also..few milli seconds delay...but it's much better in the SPORT mode..where in the response of the car is immediate..for a kick down for example..

Try the gear in the sport mode and let me know..

Thats right Sport gear improves your acceleration.

the 50 is even worse... the pedal feels dead all the time in normal D mode. In S mode the car holds RPMS longer therefore it feels like it accelerates faster.

I wonder if a sprint booster would remedy this "deadspot"

I drive mine is S mode most of the time, I too was hoping BMW would address this with software upgrade (wonder if performance package will help). I've had a couple of software upgrades and nothing changed.

The X6M doesn't have a DCT ... it has an "M-Tuned" 6-speed auto.

Maybe the 2011's with the 8-speed auto will be better?

I do own a 30d ( turbo-diesel ) and one way to get the most out of the car is to drive it in Manual S mode, and find out where the torque peak is, for example my engine has the highest torque at 4000RPMS , that means that I make the gear changes between 3800 and 4000, it shift faster, does not loose much RPM's and no turbo lag at all, I found that leaving the car in auto S mode it holds the gear for too long, dont like it and it seem that swallows a lot more fuel, in my way of driving which is kind of spirited when I can, I got great mileage per gallon and great driving feeling.

I do have a chip installed that makes the car to reach 306Hp and 600Nm of torque

Try to look into your user manual and try to find where the torque reaches the top and try not to over-rev the car after the torque peak

Good luck !

I had a thread about this a while ago:
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351218

I figured for a fast start you better push the gas pedal moderately first instead of just pressing full throttle instantly. This way transmission locks up fast and you can push full power.
When you fully press gas, transmission purposefully has a delay to adjust and lock up.

Well my 50i has only 300 miles on it so acceleration will probably improve after break-in...

That said, after owning the 35i and coming over to the TT V8, I will say I was a bit surprised at how the car "loafs" when not in sport mode...

Am quite satisfied in S mode though

What stage are you running at? I started at 4, went to 5 and just recently jacked it up to 6, no problems. As long as I can get gas with only 10% Ethanol I do OK. As soon as I dump fuel with more than 10% I get the dreaded 'Engine Malfunction' light/problem. The good news is that restarts clear it up. Also, performance is very subjective. These little six's have no low end torque like a V8. For what it is I'm relatively pleased. I drive in 'Sport' mode 95% of the time around town.

Even the X6M is really lazy in D mode. BMW has done a horrible job of programming the shift points. It's like freakin goldilocks. The D setting is too lazy and the S setting is too aggressive.
My Cayenne GTS has a sport setting thats perfect. It has aggressive shift points but not so aggressive that daily driving becomes jerky.

Not trying to change the subject, I agree. However, I also own a 2010 Cayenne S (385 HP V8). Beautiful car, different in many ways from the X6. Sport mode is better in the Cayenne but I find the X6 manual mode to be instantaneous where as the Cayenne takes about 1/2 to one full second to shift gears whether using the console shifter or the steering wheel paddles. It's plane old annoying!!
