Let me know how this works out... def interested in pushing 500hp with my 50i... however,,, I'm getting 12.9mpg average STOCK now on my first 3 tanks. I think with the mods you're talking about one will need a fuel truck in tow.

On another note has anyone experienced the Dinan chips or any other for the x5m? I would luv to boost it!
Yes, I have experienced the Dinan X5M.

I have it in my truck, and received whiplash upon first WOT and a small urine spot in my underwear.

Seriously, this truck is insanely fast up to 140 km/hr.

Just wished it increased the 140-200 km/hr acceleration.

If I did it over again, I would get an ESS tune with larger catless downpipes and exhaust.

I have to say i agree with all of you and if money was no object i would have gotten the X5M, but i went for a fully loaded x5 50i with the msport package (for sportier looks). I also took it straight to DINAN and was one of the first to get the ECU upgrade and free flow exhaust with black ceramic tips. The thing sounds menacing, it looks like a beast and it is pushing 500HP. I'm still waiting for DINAN to come back to me with a new cold air intake that should bump me up another 10HP. I will of course bow down to any true X5M, but i have to say my car will beat the crap out of a cayenne S and Range Rover SS, but i'll let the X5M owners deal with the new Cayenne Turbos.....

If you are looking for a 50i upgrade, go DINAN, it's a no brainer!!!!!!

I know this is an old thread but I just got a X5m and there is no comparison to the 5.0. If you get the 5.0 the truth is either you dont care about performance OR you compromised. I went to my Dealer and drove both. The seats ALONE were just outstanding not only OVER my 4.8is (Which I didnt SETTLE either-I kept it too its just TOO good a truck to throw away in a trade. The salesman said he had seen a 4.8is in years and when they would come in it went straight to the showroom floor, no test drives no nothing till purchase over the highest 7 series they had) AND over what was the top seats in the 5.0.
The M is just amazing and sure you can take a 335 and boost it up and make it faster than a Porsche Turbo but it will NEVER be a Porsche Turbo or a 3M. I started all this with the idea of a Porsche/BMW guy that I would get a Porsche Cayenne S but Porsche gets an attitude every once in awhile and right now they are in the 'Tude Mode. I called my own dealer and didnt even receive a call back when I said I was GOING to buy an X5 M.
So I certainly wasnt going to settle for an S when the Cayenne TT Killer was less in price. So in the end I wasnt going to settle after driving a 4.8is for 5 years. That truck was SO GOOD it kept me away from Porsche for years and know this X5 M has lifted the competition. AND has taken the 4.8is experience to an new level. Really I am glad I got an X5M to pay respect for that 5 years of EXCELLENT service the 4.8 gave me.
So the answer is buy what you want, and certainly the 5.0 makes more sense for more people and that certainly is a level of performance higher than MOST SUVs out there. And that says alot about the 5.0 owner. Its one of the best on the planet. But BMW knows there is one more group of people out there thats a bit more nuttier than the more intelligent and more responsible 5.0 owner. Thats the M guy. I dont see what the purpose is of buying the non m and then spending money on the impossible job of recreating the M. Its just not a smart thing to do. ANYTIME you buy the lesser thing and then try to make it the higher end thing ESPECIALLY in vehicles your throwing good money after bad. So either buy the M or buy the 5.0. Which ever one serves your purpose and desire, because not only will you be carrying disappointment and guilt about not having what you wanted in the first place, in the end you will not be driving what you wanted to. And ten years from now no matter how many trips to Dinan or Schnitzer you make you STILL dont have an M.

Or buy a 1-year old but still brand new x5m and purchase at or lower than the price of a x5 v8 fully loaded.

True but I was comparing new to new. Cause then I could say look at used 5.0 and so on.

I'm glad I jumped on the M and sprung for the dinan tune. It's a monster.

I had the M and sold it, and now I'm getting back into a 50i M-sport. The down side of the M is the transmission and resulting gas mileage, which can add up if you do a lot of commuting. If it had the 8-speed automatic or even the 7-speed DCT, it would be much better as a daily driver. If you have a lot of commuting miles as I do (100+/day), then getting 13mpg and refilling your tank every other day gets old. If they could fix that, it would be pretty much perfect. I miss the M, but the 50i with M-sport and chip (and maybe some other goodies) will be a good compromise. If you are driving <50 miles a day, then no question...get the M. The only other thing I don't like about the M is the squinty shape of the X6-style headlights. I prefer the regular X5 ones.

Gmoneyli - I'm thinking of getting the Dinan tune. Did you pay the listed price for the tune or were you able to get a discount? Any issues with the tune process or long term results?
