Multicontour seats
If pictures show the adjustable seat deck which extends for and aft for longer legs is this the multicontour seat? If not there must be 3 seat options, Sport Activity pkg seat multicontour and base non adjustable/ Pretty hard to get all these packages straight even infor on the internet is not consistent. Thanks

The sport and multi-contour seats have thigh extensions, but you can easily tell the difference in the pics below. The 4 seats types are Base, Sport, Multi-Contour, and Ventilated (which has all the Multi-Contour functions).
Base (these are pretty flat, sort of hard to tell in this pic) - Sport (additional side bolstering, thigh extension - I think manual?, and I believe more adjustability than the base seats) - Multi-Contour (notice the thigh extension is angled in the corners, whereas the Sport it's not…that's the easiest way to tell them apart. These seats will offer additional adjustability over the Sport seats. The two little round buttons on the side are part of this option. Thigh extension is powered) - The ventilated seats (not pictured) look just like the Multi-Contour, though if you look closely the material in certain parts of the seat looks slightly different, where the ventilation is. I believe the only 2 colors you could get with ventilation were black and sand/beige. I know for certain you couldn't get it with Cinnamon on the E70. |

If you are trying to decode the VIN, I believe that Multi Contour seats are called Comfort seats. On my 2013 X35d, this is option 456, Comfort Seats, Electric, Adjustable. I can't overstate how great these seats are. It's the one option I was't willing to compromise on when looking for my car.

Re: the multi-contour seats, those 2 little round buttons mixed in with the other seat adjustment buttons, those control the side bolsters on the seat backs - your torso area between your hip and shoulder blades. I'm fairly skinny they can still pinch me nicely into the seats. I highly recommend them. And while they're not overly common, they aren't rare either. Quote:
456 COMFORT SEATS, ELECTRIC. ADJUSTABLE Same as me, multi-contour Cinnamon. I don't have much use for ventilated seats in Seattle but still would liked to have had that option anyway. Even on the new F15 X5, there are still interior color limitations if selecting ventilation. |

I've owned all three. IMO:
First pic - Sport seat: - hard and unforgiving seat bottom after 2 hours in the saddle - side bolster too high ... will cause your voice to change after a few ingress and egress. Second pic - Comfort seat: - 20 way adjustable .. the ultimate in comfort Third pic - Standard seat: - actually feels better than the sport seat, because the bottom seat cushion is firm yet not hard, for long haul driving.

To the original poster...I struggled with this too but finally noticed as you see in the pictures that the way to tell the difference between the sport and multi contour seats when just looking at pics online looking at the leg extender. The sport one is rectangular while the multi contour one is trapezoidal.

I second what the other guys are stating about Multi-Contour Seats being a must have. It was one of my requirements when looking for my 35d as even my wife really liked the seat comfort compared to sport seats.

I have the comfort seats, too, and the only down side is that they've ruined every other BMW for me. Whenever I get a loaner from the dealer, it's a 3 series usually with the base seats and wow are they horrible in comparison.
When test driving, I checked out two X5s. One had Nav and backup camera, which are things I like, but it didn't have sport package and had base seats. Oh man, the "standard" wheel and base seats versus sport wheel and comfort seats, it was a no-brainer. I'll give up all the electronic toys in the world if that's what it takes. |

I swapped out our sport seats in our "new to us" 12 X5D for heated/ventilated multi contour seats from our totaled X5D. After spending a day in sport seats I couldn't take it. Multi contour are absolutely a must in my opinion.

I'm not an expert but I believe this was only available in the M - Active seats which has the "massager" in it. Everything is power including the thigh adjustment and headrest. Heated and cooled and also has an upper back adjustment as well. The best way to tell is by the headrest. You will see its two layers and the pad of the head rest has 3 sections sewn together and has the M in the middle. Available in the White, Black and cinnamon.

I have the multi contour seats(heated/ventilated and massaging) in both X5's...they're very comfortable seats, I don't know if it's just me but I find myself constantly adjusting 1 out of the 20 different settings on a daily basis

I do the same. Depends on my driving style and preference that day. Always seeking that inch more of comfort.
