Rear bumper replacement
hey everyone,
My first post here. We have an 09 X5 3.0 that we just purchased last month, and recently got into a minor rear end collision. The black part of the rear bumper needs to be replaced(with parking sensors) and I'm seeing quotes from $600-$780 for the part itself. However, there are some one ebay for $130-$180, are these a good fitment? I mean this piece does not get painted a body color, so I figured it wouldn't matter on the finish type. From the pictures it looks identical to OEM part. Thanks for any help! |

Go for it...even if you claimed the accident most insurance companies will only pay for an aftermarket/re-manufactured bumper anyways and it's a $500 price difference from OE. Save your money I'm sure it will fit well and you can DIY.

There are 6 bolts, one on each side behind he plastic fender arches/flares if you have them, one behind each reflector on the bumper and two in the middle underneath about 1ft apart from the center - the rest of it is held on by clips you basically have to wiggle/pull it straight out towards you.
You will have to pop 2-3 of the plastic rivets on the fender arches and replace when done so you'll need a rivet gun. That's less than $30 on Amazon where you can also get the rivets but I picked mine up at the dealer for like $1 ea. I'll try post up pics later but it's pretty easy. Ohh! I forgot if you have parking sensors you need to remove the plastic tray from your rear right quarter panel area, remove the panel to access your fuses/electronics, there will be a plug you disconnect and push through a sealed rubber grommet so when you pull off the bumper your parking sensors go with it. This is why you have to remove that plastic tray to gain access to the grommet. Hope this helps. |
