Which replacements did you go with? OEM or did you try out one of the companies on Ebay. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on the ebay stuff but just need a confirmation on fit/quality. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean by inner skeleton, but the set comes with 4 pieces, 2 on each side. Here is a picture for your reference.

I replaced them with the OEM Aluminum Running Boards. According to my friend (Certified BMW Technician), everything fits like a glove, exactly where each piece should be. Took him 2 hours for complete removal of the ones I'm selling and installation of the OEM Alumnum Running Boards.

I would pay more for the OEM fit, finish and quality.

@ M3ZCP6MT
I am just about to swap my black RB for aluminum RB and I have the same 2012 X5. I have a question and hope you can help me. Do you think I can use my original support pieces and install the aluminum RB over the existing ones? Because I got a used set of aluminum RB without their support pieces.
Thank you.

Running boards

Hey,

I swapped my black OEM running boards for the aluminum OEM running boards.

I completed the install myself. You have to change the inner base which is wider than the standard black running boards which are more narrow (in step width).

The install is an easy DIY - PM me with any questions and I am happy to help out. It is a simple bolting process. Instructions available online.

I have my black OEM running boards (4K miles only - as new - both inside support and outside) available cheap as well if anyone is interested.

Good luck!

@ cedhead
Thank you.
I guess I'll go ahead and order from BMW two support pieces or keep my black original RB.
About your RB for sale looks like some people like them more than white aluminum. I wold try local craig list or ebay, good luck and thanks again.

Hey, do you still have the black OEM running boards? I have the aluminum ones currently but actually want to swap them out for the original black ones
