Gotta love turbo engine tuning potential.

2011 RENNTECH BMW X5M sets record as World’s Fastest “TUNE ONLY” X5M – ROAD TEST TV

November 10th, 2011 by Road Test TV

Last night at Palm Beach International Raceway, we caught up with the crew from RENNtech doing some more R&D on their BMW X5M project. RENNtech’s goal was to have the fastest “tune only” BMW X5M and to be the first “tune only” X5M to run in the 11s with stock exhaust, stock (heavy) run-flat tires and stock airboxes. Well, their efforts paid off.

Even though conditions were not optimum (90% humidity and a DA of 1000 feet), the RENNtech X5M ripped to 60 mph in 3.75 seconds; reached 100 mph in 9.2 seconds, and went through the traps at the end of the 1/4 mile in 11.995 seconds at 114.05 mph. Considering that an X5M weighs well in excess of 5000 lbs without a driver, it is clear that the RENNtech X5M is making some serious power.

We asked the guys from RENNtech what’s next for the X5M, and were told that they will be doing hardware changes in phases. The modifications will include downpipes, an Akrapovic exhaust, modified airboxes, and bigger turbos.

The quick Nissan GTR in the left lane has gone a best of 10.94 at 128 mph, and is running a Cobb tune modified by HPLogic. It also has a midpipe and Michelin PS2s tires.

Insane. My X5M is still stock but these power gains with just a tune are really impressive.

Exactly what I can't wait to see either. An FBO/Tuned or even just tuned M5 is going to be ridiculous.

Wow, very impressed for such a heavy SUV. I can see it doing high 10s once they are fully done with all their future upgrades. Great work Renntech!

That's a very impressive 60 foot time. I'm really surprised that it had a quicker 60 foot time than the GT-R which has a phenomenal launch control. Anyone know how much power that X5M makes at the wheels with a tune? That GT-R has the same mods as I do on my 2012 GT-R which makes 559whp and 584wtq on a Mustang dyno. That might be a great SUV to get my wife. Then I wouldn't experience any decrease in performance when swapping between the two cars! What a beast of an SUV.

Ok, well I was talking about Ca. Correct, he won't get credit until the car come in to the dealer and ROS is issued.
So then the car could be registered with just him signing the papers. I live in Delaware and did PCD on my 128i. I signed for my car and was given a temp tag two weeks before the PCD to bring down to SC with me. I didn't go back to the dealer until about 2 months after I picked it up so clearly once the paper was signed my their part was done or my CA would have been bugging me to come back for some reason.

I don't mean to be an asshole but clearly you don't know what you're talking about. There are 49 states outside the California border and the rules and regulations can be different in every one of them. Don't come on here acting like you know everything when clearly multiple people have demonstrated you don't know how things work outside California. Offering advice based on what you know personally is one thing but don't act like a typical condescending car salesmen dickhead.
