Lower Tailgate

I was reading the manual regarding the tailgate and just realized that the lower part of the tailgate only needs to be pressed closed, not slammed. Did anyone else know that? I have been slightly slamming it. I would grab the lower tailgate and push it up with some force, with my hand still on the lower tailgate, and close it. I hope I didn't cause any damage.

It can also be loaded up to 550lbs.
