Im sure it can be added, but the costs would not make it worth it.
Its something better added when first purchased. Not really needed, but nice feature.

Just for comparison purposes, I am adding the Towing Package to my 2010 X5 4.8 (just bought it used), and after all parts and labor/programming are done I'll be paying close to $1300 instead of the $500 or so it was if ordered factory installed.
Now I have comfort access on both my E92 M3 and the X5 and I am very happy with it, I guess it is just a matter of how badly you want this and the money you're willing to spend |

If it didn't come with CA, it likely doesn't have the necessary antennas installed. I'm sure anything can be added, but the cost would probably far exceed the $1000 it takes to equip it that way when ordering it. I'm not an expert, and am speculating, but I would assume that it involves routing some wiring through door panels, and possibly the firewall and trunk.
My 2009 E90 has it, and I love it. My CPO 2008 X5 does not, and I miss it. Not worth spending 1000's on though, IMHO. |
