Holy crap my camera's mic sucks. I tried from a few different angles with my Nex-3 and it's either blown out or all you can hear is the intake. It wouldn't be fair to upload. I'm gonna try again with better camera later. Sorry.

So how much does it cost to have the dealer install the PE on a 328i sedan? An indy?

Any good muffler shop can do it. I was charged $60 because it involved welding and creating a new hanger for the catback I had installed. The E90 PE is bolt on so it should be cheaper than $60. I would say $40 or so. Shop around.

Also saw one on eBay for $955 shipped.

When I called to get a quote on installation, I was asked where does the exhaust start. Is it called "catback" or do I say it's a midpipe and muffler. Is that the same thing? Or is it something completely different?

I just did mine today. 50 bucks! I asked for a muffler swap. Music to my ears every time I go under the bridge or tunnel.

My install yesterday was $109 at an indie shop. The exhaust was $899 + $55 shipping from BMW of Morristown in NJ. So $1,063 all said and done. Sounds great.

One question though: Should I plug the vacuum hose now that it's not connected to anything?

EDIT: After reading numerous golf tee mod threads, I zip tied, and plugged the hose with a bb.

I'll be checking with Morris Town... $855 is an awesome price.

Cheapest I saw before purchasing was directly from ebay. BMW of El Cajon has it for $920 shipped on ebay. If you are signed up with ebay bucks, you'll get back around $18 as well... I had a great experience with them and love my exhaust.

If you can get just the muffler of a performance exhaust, is it possible to just cut out the old muffler and weld on the new and have the same results or does the kit change out to bigger pipes as well as the new muffler?

Replace the muffler and have the resonator deleted. Don't forget to transfer the rubber piece and plug the vacuum hose that controls the valve on the old muffler. The pipes are the same size.

When I had mine done, my exhaust guy looked at the new PE and said, "Looks like the same thing to me". He asked if I just wanted to delete the resonator and unplug the vacuum hose. I opted to have the PE installed as I it was already paid for and sitting in his shop. There is a ton of videos and stuff out there on resonator delete. I don't know how much different the mufflers actually are. They do look the same, except for the tips. I drive an 06 330i. Hope this helps.

They look the same because they are the same, you'll notice all the new weld marks on the PE, they open it up and re work the inside maybe re pipe it with non perforated pipe and less sound absorbing materiel. But its the same shell. Its whats on the inside that counts. Its kinda like a stock M3 exhaust mod that a lot of the m3 guys do.
