Retrofit Side View Cameras?

Anyone know if this can be done? I have the top view/reverse cameras, so I'm guessing everything is already there but the cameras and the button to activate them..

have them on my x5m , it's cool but not worth it. only works in low speed and have to manually press the button to turn on . if it's like the range where you can have it on

still haven't figured out how to code it so it's not speed dependent (f30) guys have coded .

New front Bumper, Wiring harness. Center switch module, Control modules and coding.

The wiring harness is the hardest part to source because unless BMW offer a retrofit ... The harness will be virtually impossible to get unless you got one from salvage.

Good to know thanks. I figured it would be nice for getting out of parking garages in the city, but if it's not worth it in real world use outside of that, I won't pursue it.

So, expensive and I'd have to hire Indiana Jones to find me the parts? On to the next idea!

I have side view and seldom use it, would not worry about it?

Easy retrofit

Actually a pretty easy retrofit. I have all the part numbers posted on bimmerfest.

For surround view you need to replace both side mirrors with Surround view mirrors (they have camera in them)

Front bumper does NOT need to be removed. Holes are marked on inside of front bumper. Just remove wheel and wheel well. Drill holes in front bumper.

Go to ebay and purchase the cameras at 100.00 each. REALOEM has the part numbers for your car.

2 cables from mirrors to door harness. 4 cables from front cameras and Door harness to ECU in trunk

Replace ECU in trunk with one off ebay. 200.00

Run cables through existing OEM harness firewall rubber grommets on Passenger and Drivers side. Just follow factory wiring harness.

Run cables through floor foot areas and down drivers side.

Insert new ECU in trunk and connect cables. Have car coded and you are good to go.

Can be done well under 2k.

Actually, I misread that. I have side view, just not front view (which would also be helpful). What I really want is Lane departure warning indicators

I'd like to add just the front ones as I already have the mirror camera and back camera, do you have the part number for the correct computer to look for? And front wires?

Thanks!

My X5M has them retrofitted. Somebody already mentioned it, but the most expensive part was the front bumper camera cables. They are unobtanium used, and still cost $450 through my wholesale shop account. The rest of the parts can be found used. Though the front bumper technically has a part number specific to the camera option, you can cut the D shaped holes for the cameras and still install the self adhesive camera bracket and camera from the inside. I bought a new bumper since my old one was damaged- I wanted a fresh front end.

No doubt. If you're attempting to add to the VO and code the modules yourself it is much more difficult than coding for turning functions on/off. Not something I'd want to risk attempting for the first time. It is very easy to pay someone $100 and code it remotely if you don't have anyone local.

Yeap Codding is the only thing I don't play with lol
Codding is more complicate it to me than parting the whole truck apart and build it again
