160mph run turns into Engine Failsafe

Late night on an empty two lane highway, get on it and she's pulling like a freight train, let off because I caught up with another car, only to have the engine go into failsafe, reduced power and stuttering like crazy. I limped it like a mile to a friend's house, smelling heavily of gas and barely holding an idle. I read the following codes, reset it and everything is back in business as usual. Most Google searches took me to E90 M3 forums, some of the more generic misfire ones took me to multiple BMW boards. Just wanted to get some .02 as to if anyone has experienced any of these as well and what your fixes were.

As for the car...bone stock, drop-in filters, 66k with a spark plug change within the year.

BD2 - pending:
P013E - O2 Sensor Delayed Response - Rich to Lean Bank 1 Sensor 2

OBD2 - pending:
P014A - O2 Sensor Delayed Response - Rich to Lean Bank 2 Sensor 2

OBD2 - pending:
P112C

OBD2 - pending:
P112D

OBD2 - pending:
P165F

OBD2 - pending:
P166F

OBD2 - pending:
P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected

OBD2 - pending:
P0308 - Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected

OBD2 - pending:
P0307 - Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected

These two codes I know nothing about. The only weird thing I've had happen inside the car is a few times I'd be driving down the road, heater fan speed on low and suddenly I'd get a burst of air from all the center vents. The only other thing that might relate is my rain sensor
isn't working due to a window replacement before I'd bought it.

Instrument cluster:
A566

No clue on this one either since my parking sensors, cameras, beeping, etc all work.

Parking sensors:
E207 - CAN controllers, bus-off

There is something wrong with the o2 sensor wiring or the sensor itself passenger side, cylinder 5-8, check out the values with diagnostic software. This is causing the misfires and the CEL.
Second is a wastegate error, the actuator of the wastegate isn’t working, didn’t reach the fully closed position.

Sorry it is very hard for me to explan in english, i don't speak so good.

Clear the codes and do it again. Chances are that it has not been driven hard like it was designed to be driven.

Front or rear 02? I'll be getting a tune eventually that'll shut off the rear 02's since I'm taking the cats out today to gut them.

The CEL didn't happen until I let off the gas, had braked back down to like 70mph and then passed another car. Still odd it happened.

You're fine, if anything use Google translate otherwise it's just good practice. Thanks for your reply :-)

After I cleared the codes, it ran smooth as butter again.

I did drive it home back on that same freeway, didn't get up to those speeds, but it still felt like it was back to normal and no codes by the time I got home. I'm guessing the 1st owner wasn't one to stretch its legs since it was at the dealership for every little thing up until past 50k. It's the second owner I question since it's got drop-in filters, aftermarket wheels and the muffler has been removed and reinstalled based on the poor welding and lack of hoses connected to the exhaust valves. I've written the dealership to give me the courtesy of asking the PO what the story is behind the muffler and what other mods he may have done. I wanted to get opinions here before making another run like that. I assumed the limiter on these things were 155mph and the only reason I stopped past 160 is because I came up on another car.

It is the rear o2 sensor. But i agree with WallyM5 if it run smooth now, just clear the codes and start to worry again when it happend second time.. Not all codes have to came up now just.. Maybe they are old..

Fingers crossed :-) So far the only issues I can find is the intake tube gaskets aren't sealing, but that's pre MAF so it shouldn't really be that much of an issue.

Okay this is not nice but should not be a problem at all. Just check out the vacuum lines around and on top of the engine as well..

Before my tune, the limiter was at 167. Now with Eurocharge tune the sky is the limit. So far 178, but just a lack of the road and the right situation. It needs to be topped out, I would like to know where it will go.

I know you keep tabs on this but to the others be sure to check your tire pressure. And tires must be in good shape, at those speeds its critical.

Well $hit. First morning start caused a CEL, no cold idle like usual and these codes. Time to start taking out the downpipes.

OBD2 - pending:
P0308 - Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected

OBD2 - pending:
P0307 - Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected

OBD2 - pending:
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

OBD2 - pending:
P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected

Resetting the codes does nothing, it just comes back.

Started at noon, a tools run that took an hour and a few interruptions by two different groups of buddies who came over...it's 11hrs later and I'm calling it a night.

I've got new PCV/oil separators (I broke both trying to get brackets off), gaskets (the ones feeding the ducting into the turbos) and a special spark plug socket ordered.

Fingers crossed. The leaking PCV/oil separators is something I noticed last week when measuring for a custom intake. To remove them requires removal of a few heat shields around the turbos since the bolts are inaccessible. In my rush I accidentally broke the tubes off, but they're all old design that BMW has since changed...which I hope in the future won't leak.

My fingers are crossed that excessive oil has gotten into the turbos, fouled plugs and/or the MAF and that a simple cleaning or replacement will allow the car to run smoothly again. Since it ran fine on a hot engine but turns into crap when cold, I'm guessing a cold engine is allowing things to foul up.

So I've vaguely read about injector issues on these engines, but after reading this, I'm wondering if the two are related.

178 Huh?
I saw a youtube video of an X5M burying the speedo somewhere in Europe... The Speedo was edging past 305 KPH, which roughly translates to 190MPH.... running at night!

I haven't used my endoscope to look inside the heads yet, but the 3rd spark plug on the drivers side was still wet with fuel. All much injectors are Index 07 so once again I'm just going to consider this as an upgrade for more power, better mileage and no more soot on my tailgate.

A little under $900 and 3 days later I've got brand new Index 12 injectors, BMW badges and all on them. Now to figure out how to remove them since the I6 is FAR easier than the V8.
