Catless Down Pipes

Has anybody only done a catless downpipe WITHOUT upgrading the full exhaust system?

I've only been able to find posts on full system upgrades but im interested in doing this in 2 stages. I want to first change out my downpipes, then go with a full akra exhaust system.

Does anybody have experience with this? Does catless downpipes with stock exhaust sound funny?

yes I'm in the same boat and also heard that you can really smell the gas,so I'm having second thoughts on it. And it's an 8 hour labor job

There was a poster with an X6///M whom did this - there was a performance gain, but turned the sound into a "loud Fartbox" with lots of drone and annoying "farting" sounds.

He was relieved when the exhaust was replaced

There may even be a vid or 2 on his thread...I'll have to try hard to remember his name

Oh, thats what I was afraid of. "Fartbox" is not what I was aiming for.

Let me know if you find the original post. I would love to read up on it.

I know that ultimately, I would like both catless downpipes and full exhaust but I can't justify in spending over $8k for just parts in one sitting. From another thread, replacing the full exhaust doesn't yield a big enough sound difference. Replacing DPs AND full exhaust is the ideal setup.

How much "gains" or sound difference between full akra exhaust system (with no DP mod) VS axle back exhaust like megan racing?

BTW, over $1500 for catless downpipes is ridiculous.....
