2011 X5 annoying whistle/whooshing noise

I have a 2011 X5 that whistles off and on and I was hoping someone might be able to diagnose. It sounds like the car is gasping for air or in a wind tunnel.

The sound is not constant. It mainly appears at low RPMs going up hills.

The cabin air filter is new. The noise was there before and after replacement.

See the video below. The first whistle is around 8 seconds, then it appears again at 19 seconds. Its the loudest at 29 seconds.

maybe a seal broken under the hood or a damper stuck for the air vents? have you tried changing the inside / outside air vents to see if it related to a/c heat?

It happens with the heat/ac/fan on or off. It's really strange.

It's a turbo engine, all 2011 and up. They all have a valve stock. Does it sound more when you floor it. Wondering if it's leaking

Hows the power?

Power is fine. The sound seems to appear as the trans shifts from gear to gear. As it gets into higher RPMs, the sound dies down.

I have received the low power mode/limp mode error a few times but that goes away after restart. Seems to be a problem with others on this forum with no definite fix.

What's a "valve stock"?

Stock meaning from factory. It sounds like you have a boost leak. Floor it and see how it sounds

Limp mode / reduced power doesn't mean no definite fix. Have you pulled the codes ?

IMO, I would also have your Front Drive Shaft checked ASAP if it hasn't already been replaced. ...See numerous threads regarding this subject on this board.

I have this same exact problem with my 2011 E70. What was the final diagnosis?
