Front-end looks bloody ugly, and I'm not huge on the interior. Looks like they cut a Porsche Panamera in half and stuck it to the rear end of a model S.

Although I agree, I think once electric cars are the norm we may start to see some crazy designs. I mean there is no reason for the tesla to look like a car. I mean it has no engine, no exhaust etc. It has no face because it needs no intake. Right now it makes it look weird but I think eventually once people get use to them they could do some crazy stuff with the design.

A brand should have a face though. The S has one.

Face looks weird with just eyes no nose and mouth. Imagine if you saw a person like that

My wife mentioned yesterday as we were spending a grand on radiator and other stuff for her E90, but she wants to know who is going to service the car.

They answered that at the event last night... they are doubling the service centers next year and then doubling again the following year. FWIW... no radiator in a tesla to replace. also no motor oil changes.

They are redoubling their charging stations as well. I think they have a website that answers these questions

I am not a Tesla fan, yet was still surprised by how much I dislike the design of this car.

Interesting to think about how hard it would be to design a car without a grill and have it look good, we are all very accustomed to the look of a grill on a car and design is going to have to evolve a bit for it to look normal to us without.

I actually think the exterior looks WAY better than anything else in the category. Not a fan of the interior but who cares, this and the Chevy Bolt will be the first time electric cars really make sense for the masses.

Interesting also to note that one hour of pre-orders were greater than BMW 3 series US sales in 2015. Say what you will but that is impressive and the market is rewarding innovation.

Looks wise i agree.. not that awesome. But that's what the aftermarket is for. I'm in it for the tech in the car (same as for BMW's... it's all about the tech).

It's not just "not test driving the car", heck I bought my wife a new loaded 2015 Sienna Premium Limited AWD back in May last year, unseen and never driven. Did the paper work in 30 mins and we were off with the car driving home after a quick 15 min overview on the car.

But the model 3 is not going to be available till 2018 at the earliest... it's just a refundable deposit to hold a spot in line. While I can afford to pay cash for a high end model ride... I personally don't feel like wasting money. I pretty much just buy and own my cars (Drive them into the ground, I have never sold a car in my life, and I still have every car i ever purchased in my driveway.
Ban for admitting you own a Sienna

Well, enjoy it when you get it. Hopefully you are near the front of the line and still have the tax credit available when it is ready.

Might be nice for a commuter. But still presents challenges on road trips until a strong network of charging stations exists on most interstates, or rest areas.

Might actually be a good way to generate revenue for states, place these on highway rest areas.

One vehicle design I could see is a commuter version with only 50 mile range, with a very, very small range extender engine good for maybe 70mph (think motorcycle engine).

One nice design feature would be modular platforms where you can tailor the battery size and IC range extended size for your driving pattern. Actually, you could have a iphone app that logs you driving activity over maybe a month, and recommends which drive train options are best. It would present certification challenges. But AHRI is managing with efficiency ratings on furnaces, air handlers and coil matches with condenser units.

I think we are just use to that. Don't get me wrong I'm one of those people, I think it looks weird as shit. However that face has always been there for necessity and now that we don't NEED it they can come up with some totally new designs. Not saying the should put a face for now while people are still getting used to it but in the future who knows what cars will look like.
