Navigation Night Mode
Navigation has night mode. All navigation systems I've used, TomTom, Garmin, Magellan and Google Map Navigation all switched to night mode automatically when the time hits right.
I found an option to check or uncheck the night mode. But the nav system does not switch depending on the time. The system stays in either night mode or day mode and that's it. Is this normal or is my system has a problem? I'm new to the community and still learning about the car. I've searched and read manual but no luck on answer. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you. |

I've left it permanently in night mode after giving up on this as well. To be honest though, I was never much of a fan of the white background on day mode anyway.

i thought it was natural to think that the nav switches to night mode when the headlight is on. Or the clock hits 6:30pm or something.
But nothing happens. Do I need update or something? |

Welcome to one of the lovely BMW quirks. The NAV doesn't automatically switch between day and night mode. Many of us (myself included) program one of the preset keys to make the switch.

You have to look in the Nav options. I forget exactly what the option is called, but its something to do with grey mode or something... Uncheck that option and then it will switch between day and night mode. I had to hunt and find it for a bit, but its in the Nav options.
Once you get it switching, program one of the 6 preset keys to auto switch it, that's how I have mine set up. Still irritating, my 2012 X3 would auto switch... Would love to upgrade my Nav to the software/unit in the newer vehicles... Good luck.

I looked again... When on the navigation map, click to the right on the map. Then go to map settings. From there, scroll down to "traffic conditions/gray map". Uncheck this option.
Now, when you select night mode, the map will switch between day and night. If you don't already use them, set one of the preset buttons to switch it for you. Scroll up until the "Night mode" is selected, but do not click it on. Choose and hold down one of the six preset buttons. It will store that setting so that every time you press that button, it will switch between the two modes. Good luck.

Hmm, I'm curious on that one, I'll have to look in a little bit.
