idrive trailer hitch

Anyone here know the 'advantage' of the iDrive connection to a back bumper hitch set up?

In other words, if you just get the etrailer.com (https://www.etrailer.com/tv-install-...-x5-75600.aspx) hitch connected, I don't think it is integrated into the iDrive.

That is correct. Installing a hitch does not activate the towing features on the car. You need 2 things to do so 1) BMW wiring harness installed and 2) Coding to activate the cars towing features.

The features are
1) Autodetection of hitch shank and activation of special backup camera angle and targeting arrows to make hitching with a trailer a snap.
2) Anti-sway control
3) Tow/Haul mode in shifting
4) Auto Disables rear backup sensors when trailer is hitched
