I'll be the first to tell you that it's not even worth the investment. At least, not for navigation. I cannot think of a time when I used it in my X5. I always plop my iPhone on the dashboard and use that.

I use the nav all the time, 9/10 times I use it over my iphone. Though my wife on the other may use her iphone 50% of the time vs the native nav within the X5.

My reasons are that it's easy to navigate, and even easier to get to the stored addresses, which I have a lot of. It's also been updated, so I'm comfortable with the 2015 maps as is.

But to add it in as a retrofit.. So not worth it.

I admit that when I was fiddling with the updated navigation in the 2013 5-series, I might use that. But mine in the 2011, it's way too dated and slow. Plus it doesn't have the intelligence, say a Waze does. If there was a way that I could throw my iPhone stuff on my X5's screen, that would be amazing.

Out of curiosity, why did you not buy one with navigation? Looks like you just bought it, and that is usually an option that people usually go for.

Didn't even know non-navigation X5s were possible

The F15 screen is 10.2…so is your screen smaller than an E70 navigation equipped vehicle? I guess I figured the screens were all the same, Nav or not. Hard to tell in your pic…maybe it does look smaller than mine

mine is a 6.5. the bigger one for the e70 is a 8.8" BimmerRetrofit makes a f15 style screen for the e70/71's

Right, what I meant was, buy a used X5 that had the larger screen/nav already. There is a very large amount of used ones for sale. Curious why you did not wait to buy one with nav already in it.

yeah agreed. The price difference between used X5s with certain options aren't that large anymore. Sure a completely stripped out X5 and one with every option on it can differ by $5k or so, but ones without navigation must be really rare.

When I was shopping for my preowned X5, I never came across one that had no navigation. But then again, I was hunting for a very specific option that is conceivable that when the original buyer built their car, if they wanted that option, there's 100% chance they were going to get the navigation as well.

OP, given that your screen is also a different size, you may be looking an almost full CIC retrofit. You can save a few dollars by not buying the idrive controller and interior trim, but you need a new screen, possibly head unit, hard drive and maybe a GPS receiver (b/c you have BMW assist, you likely already have some basic hardware like a GPS receiver.)

I would ask BPM for a customized solution so you don't end up spending $3k for their package. Just tell them that at a minimum you dont' need the controller and interior trim, that'll cut at least a few hundred off a retrofit:
https://www.bpmsport.com/featured/cic-retrofit.html
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=762143

Ships with:
• CIC Unit
• 8.8" High Definition Screen
• HD Video Cable
• Screen Power Connector
• Glovebox USB cable
• Govebox USB port
• New iDrive Controller w/ Shortcut Buttons
• CIC trim (if selected)

Every CIC Retrofit includes:
• Pre-Coding of the Unit to your Vehicle
• The Latest Combox Ready Software
• 2016 Maps for your Region

Aah, OK... I usually pick the cars from the auction web site and tell my friends which one to buy for me.

How do you know if your car is equipped with Navigation or not?
If you have the smaller screen does that mean it doesn't have navi?

I bought a pre-owned X5, it has the navi button and I found a BMW CD rom with maps in the trunk of the car. But when i put the CD in, still nothing happens if I hit the Navigation button.
Might just be random coincidence the cd was in the car?

Why not try screen mirroring to get navigation?

As shown above you would see on the menu screen where it would state "navigation" as an option. I could be wrong yet usually the smaller screen is a clear indication of not having one installed

I was wondering the same thing. Except I dont want nav. I just want the larger screen and blue tooth and bluetooth audio and mirroring. Can it be done? Would it be alright to just get the CIC screen off ebay?
