X6M vs X5M

I currently own a 2011 X5M. Love it. But it's approaching the end of the extended warranty. I've decided to pick up a 2013 or 2014 X6M and keep the good times rolling. I inspected an X6M the other day. Love the sporty nature of the shape. Two issues I need advice on.

1. The rear window visibility is significantly less than the X5. Thoughts on this? Is it something I'll get used to.

2. Rear cargo capacity is obviously less. But does it make much of a real-world difference?

Appreciate your feedback.

Good choice on the X6M!

To answer your questions from my point of view:

1) The visibility you get used to. It's really not as bad as it first seems once you get a solid feel for the car. I came from an M4 that seemed like it had loess visibility than the X6M I have. I'd recommend finding one with the rear camera if you have the choice.

2) Never had an issue with storage. The two rear seats fold down if it's that large of an item. I did a snowboarding trip a few weeks ago and took up bars for 3 people and two boards without a problem.

Hope that helps!

I agree with JK.

You get used to the rear visibility. Spot mirrors on the side views also help in keeping track of who is where when you're on the highway.

The only issue you will have with the cargo area is if you need to carry something high and long. For everyday stuff, not an issue.

Good luck!

Thanks for your opinions. On the storage question, could you fit two large suitcases in the hatch area with rear seats up? I know there is plenty of margin immediately behind the rear seats. It's the area closest to the latch that I'm concerned about. I'm tempted to take a couple empty suitcases, and my dog crate, to a local dealer and test it. It's not the end of the world if it doesn't fit, but we often take our family of 4 on road trips and need the back seats.

What is your definition of large? If you put them in long ways, you can put two side by side with the rear seats up and cargo cover in place. You can also stack them. I go to the beach with the girls every year and you'd be amazed what I can fit. I think the only drawback is something oversized where you need the height all the way back.

Thanks for the example of packing for a road trip. That's exactly what I need it for. Rosemary Beach every June.

I have two pups one 40lb and the other 70lb, for me the x6 was out of the question. The x5 is a push as it is!

I have X6M we travel between Carlsbad and Scottsdale regularly . I just fold down the seats and put a wire dog crate in the back that's big enough for our 55 pound Chow Chow to lay down and sleep ( which he does most of the trip). Also in the back is our luggage, never had any space issues.
