A common BMW policy?
Yipee.... finally picked up my SG 35i
Very pleased about the color and interior (Oyster/Bamboo), all matched perfectly. Anyway, when I'm heading off to get my new set of wheels, the dealer reminded me NOT to install anything EXCEPT original BMW or AC Schnitzer rims, otherwise the warranty may void, especially on the suspension and breaking system!!!! I never wanted to get a cheap set of imitation rims on my new car but there are many super quality aftermarket products available! Perhaps this is the local dealer's policy, and unfortunately we have only got 1 dealer |

My dealer never mentioned anything like this when I picked up my previous cars.
You should get a copy of the official BMW warranty with the paper work you get when you pick up your car. Read through it. It should spell out exactly what is and what is NOT covered!

This stupid HK tax system is just annoying, any new add-ons you buy from dealer will be taxed 80% if done within first 6 months, so we have to go outside to get them =_=' |

I don't know the laws in HK, but in North America and Europe your vehicle is warranteed by BMW, not the dealer. The dealer performs warranty work and is reimbursed by BMW. If the written warranty does not exclude aftermarket wheels, your dealer is lying. He probably just wants you to buy wheels from him.

As far as after market parts and warranty in the US there is Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. in a nutshell the manufacturer has to prove the after market part cause the part under warranty to fail and then they can only exclude that part.
