X5 35d ECU Tunes?

Hello everyone.

I've been doing a little bit of research on potential power upgrades for our new X5 diesel. I am wondering if anyone in North America is running any of these products at the moment, and if they are what their opinion is. So far I've found options from Evolve, Hartge and V-tech. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

there seems to be a different ecu map for North America so from what I understand none of the Europeans have modified their tunes for North American vehicles.

I;m coming out of a 4.8i to the diesel and would like to add some top end to the 35d for 2 lane passing (can you say highway 22 to Fernie every weekend!).

If you come across anything let us know.

+1 Looking for ECU program for my X5 35d

...and you're right there are major difference between NA and EU 35d engines. I remember reading somewhere there are additional interior heating component, including a ceramic heater, and other accessories driven by the engine. According to BMW, North American's aren't used to the lack of heat sometimes produced by diesels and expect instant on heating. How this affects ECU mapping compatibility I'm not sure, but I contacted Hartge and they were very clear, an ECU map for the EU version is NOT compatible with the NA version engine.

CORRECTION: Sorry I need to correct myself.. I emailed Hartge about 2 months ago who then passed me onto an authourized dealer. It was that authorized dealer for Hartge that told me it wasn't available. I'll try and dig up that dealers name from my email.

Interesting that you were told by Hartge that there wasn't a tune available. Here is the message that I received back last week:

Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for inquiring about Hartge tuning products for your BMW. We are an authorized Hartge distributor for North America and your e-mail was forwarded to us from Hartge for answering.

For the newer vehicles, on-site tuning is very difficult and requires special equipment. Tunerworks would have to have a BDM programming station on site with the specific card for the diesels. We have one here and will soon have the capability to program diesel engine computers. If they do not have a BDM station the computer will have to be mailed to us for programming. The turn-around for this procedure is 2-3 days.

The cost for the performance programming is $1885. It's a 40hp and 18 ft-lbs torque gain.

If you would like more information on these or any other BMW tuning product, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Thank you,

I guess Hartge's out if they can't even get their answer straight.

I'd be more interested in running into you in your M3 on 22 with my F than anything our diesels can do.

It's all good.

This is why we're on forums like this....to talk about things and share info. My primary concern with any tune is the availability of a warranty. When I was looking at a 535 previously, I was prepared to pay the extra cash for a Dinan tune just so that it was still completely covered (...that and our local dealer is one of a handful of authorized Dinan dealers ).

I hope that we can find something that makes sense here in the NA marketplace.

Lets just say its a fun drive and the M is rock solid at "highway speeds".

Passing in it is an afterthought.

Hopefully picking up the X5d this afternoon. Man they want alot of money for the snow tire package for it. I sourced the stuff myself for the 4.8 - hadn't appreciated how much I saved until now.

If you know anyone in the market for a year old 4.8i let me know!

I would love a tune for my X5d as well. I wonder if dinan is going to dip into the diesel world?

The shop that Tunerworks uses installed my AR DP's. The mechanic that worked on my car was a former BMW tech for 5 years. They do good work.

Thanks for the positive comments regarding Tunerworks. I'll be getting a new set of wheels for both our X5 and ML in the spring so it's great to have a vote of confidence.

Hopefully someone comes up with some tuning options in warranty.

Huh?

You might want to check your own website then? If you click on the E70 35d it comes up as "no products in this category"?

Care to provide more details and an explanation???

You guys are very fortunate "across the pond" with all of your different and successful tunes for the 35d.

Unfortunately, to this point, over here in NA there isn't anything available that will produce the gains we are all looking for....and keep you in warranty.
