N63 Service campaign - wipe out custom coding?

I know there's a huge thread on the N63 service campaign - I tried asking this question in there but it got lost in the shuffle.

Has anybody had their N63 work completed who had custom coding - did it wipe it all out?

Thanks,
Jeff

I didn't have custom coding but I think the answer is yes. It took two days to program the modules in my car including the rear tailgate module which has nothing to do with the engine issues.

Yes, both for 'vanity' custom coding, such as lighting changes, mirror folding, etc, as well as software-based performance tunes.

Not everything gets wiped out, as BMW only updates certain modules, but a fair bit does. I lost the following:
  • Close Windows & Sunroof with KeyFob
  • Fold side mirrors with KeyFob
  • Double Hazard Flashers/Eurohazards
  • Run high beams and fog lights simultaneously
  • Disable speed overestimation
  • Velos Tune

Yes, another forum member PAX5 got all of his coding wiped out as a result of the N63 campaign, and had to re-code them. Contact him for details - I believe he did his coding with "codemycar".

What do you mean by 'unlocked?'

Hmm, we'll I have a few of these coded but none of them are the critical ones IMO. Would still have them coded back though. It's the seatbelt and window chimes, and legal disclaimers that drove me nuts.

Thanks Pradeep. I had Okee (codemycar) do my coding so I'll just reach out to him to re-code after the work is done.

At least for my car, BMW didn't update the modules that cover the chimes and disclaimers, so that coding stuck.

Okee did my original coding and was great with the recode. I still had the laptop configured with his tooling, so the recode was very fast. You may have to wait a few days for the recode as Okee's pretty heavily booked--he mentioned a lot of recode work due to the N63 campaign.

The critical one for me (and one I missed in my list above) was the ability to start the car without my foot on the brake. When it's cold, it's nice to shove the key in the slot and just push the button to start, rather than having to get in and press the brake, or reach down and do so.

Strange, I didn't lose a single thing after having the injectors replaced...

I imagine it will depend which SW version is on the car when you take it in. BMW may not require the absolute latest software to be installed, so if you have a relatively recent version they may just leave it.

My coding was left intact after I got it back.

It depends from which iLevel you were upgraded from.

If it was a recent one, not all modules get updated.

Latest one as per ISTA/P 3.54.3 and ISTA/P X.55.0

E070-14-11-501

The easiest way is to ask the SA to print the data from the key.

where:
iLevelBackup is the previous version
iLevelHO is the current version
iLevelPlant is the original version from the factory

Well…I had my N63 work completed last week and as the above replies suggested, I ended up losing about 3/4 of my coding. For those with coding you might agree - once you have it, it's more annoying and less convenient without it. Thankfully tonight I had everything restored.

Okee (codemycar.com) was nice enough to squeeze me in this week, despite his busy schedule being on the west coast for M Fest…and he wouldn't accept any $ to re-code my X5. For anyone who's interested in custom coding but doesn't want to deal with it themselves, I highly recommend Okee
