E70 X5 35i Intercooler Options
I've searched high and low with scattered info.
Is there a confirmed maker of an upgraded FMIC for this vehicle? I am planning to run a VRSF on my E92, and would just assume run the same on this car. What say you? |

If you want to make more power, wouldn't it be easier to get a 50i?

An intercooler will likely fetch $400 for the N55, and be an easy way to modify the tune being run, and get closer to 400whp out of it. That's ideal, since it gets 23+ mpg hwy, rather than 14/15. I keep the aggressive power to my DD, the N54 335. |

I would reach out to vendors who make them for the 335. I would guess that with some reasonable modifications you could make them work.
If not, there are few companies that make custom FMICs. It all depends on what you want to spend. |

I've done that as well. I think the only real difference is that the end tanks have symmetrical ports on the E70 intercooler, and the E90/E92 have offset ports, so a simple change of piping/tubing should do the trick. Cobb is confirming what they can do for it. The VRSF FMIC has been proven to be a great mod for the $ compared to the other makers out there, and the 5" core shouldnt take too much trimming of plastic to fit if the piping can be figured out with relative ease. |

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...x6+intercooler the OEM x5/x6 intercooler is already bigger than the OEM e9x/e8x N54/N55 IC. obviously the size doesnt equal efficiency, but it will def be a less of a difference than on the E9x. On the E9x/E8x there is a size constriction because of bumper available space. the E7x dont have that. OEM on E9x is: Stock 20" W x 5.12" H x 4.5" D OEM on e70 is 22" W x 6.7" H x 4.3" D About 1.5" taller, and 2" wider at the core. Teeny bit not as deep. if you get any more info let me know. i am stage 1 Cobb, with a BMS intake (youc an use the F10 535 intake BTW on E70 N55), and have an ER DP sitting in a box which will be installed in about 2 weeks. Also have a F10 535 CP on order, and would love to finish the bolt ons to make it a nice little racetruk! |

Awesome to see something similar. I did an afe drop in filter. How is the noise from your intake? I'll revisit with josh at Cobb and see if he came up with anything on the fmic. I'd rather do the vrsf personally.

Do a Google search for 'Big Tom Intercooler'. Legend in N54 land. Prolly work on N55 too.

I am also not a fan of the tall and skinny FMIC on any bmw. Most of the FMIC was hidden behind the bumper anyway. I really didn't see any good proven dyno testing on the big toms. I had a AMS and switched to vrsf 7" Saw little improvements switching the the 7" but not much. AMS is considered pretty good just found a good deal and decided to switch. |

Me and my friends all thought I was doing a 4 wheel burn out it sounds like a screech and I can hear the BOV on the turbo a lot. Age is still closed so you most likely hear nothing right? I highly suggest the BMS, best of all it looks pretty boss. I just shared all that info with josh today actually he tweaked my stage 1 map a little. Anyone else running Cobb stage 1 aggressive here? |
