oil cooler line leak? x5m

Does the location of this leak seem like it would be oil cooler lines? Or maybe leaking front of the oil pan, though it seems too far forward.

I’ll check those things but wanted to see if there is anything else I should be looking out for.

Turbo oil return lines were replaced earlier this year. Doesnt look like it’s leaking from the back of the block.

where is the stabilization plate? You are not allowed to drive without this. oil looks like upper oil pan gasket.

The undertrays were pulled off to try and find the leak. I’ve got another car to drive in the mean time fortunately.

Lots of oil everywhere, not surprisingly since it’s been leaking a while. After spending 30 minutes under the car with it running the only active dripping I could see was from the oil cooler lines.

Seems like the subframe needs to be removed, or lowered at least, in order to replace the lines. Probably makes sense to do the upper and lower oil pan gaskets at the same time. Doesn’t look like fun work on jack stands.

Anyone here done this themselves, have any advice or tips to share?

Before you start dropping the subframe (and engine with it), I’d recommend taking some Brake Kleen and clean / degrease the engine, oil lines and all other grimey parts. Then drive it some and see where the oil is coming from.

Not yet. I cleaned it up a while back, but haven’t gotten a chance to try and spot the leak since. Hopefully some time this coming week. I’ll update with what I find.

I almost don’t believe it, but I think I’ve got a leak from one of the metal oil cooler lines. And not from where it’s crimped or at a connection. This is the area of the line that is normally covered by a support bracket. No oil coming from above the line or running down it from a higher spot. Must be a little pin hole.

It would be great if you were able to identify it there!!! I mean, not great, "Hooray I have an oil leak," but at least you figured it out...

If that's it, how hard will it be to replace the line?

Ista says the subframe needs to be dropped to replace this line. I think it’s doable just slightly lowering it though. Anyway I’ll end up dropping the subframe to also replace the upper oil pan gasket at the same time. I’m thinking it’ll take me at least 20 hours, working outside with the car on jackstands.

Yikes, that's too bad you have to do that. But yeah, do the OPG and motor mounts while you're there!
