Third Row Question
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Thanks in advance for any advice. I tried searching this topic but didn't find anything. I have a 2009 x5 48i without the 3rd row seats. My wife wants to add them now. The dealership said no way it's a different body for the 3rd row option. Does anybody know if they can be installed aftermarket? Has anyone ever done this? Thanks |

I don't think the exterior body is different, but the interior tub might be. I think it would be extremely cost prohibitive to add the third row, even if possible. As an option, it was like $1,900. I can imagine a conversion costing over double that. You'd be better off selling your X5 and buying one with the third row instead.....

Also just a nice side note, those 3rd row seats will take up almost all of your trunk space when they are in the upright position. Also no one bigger than a small kid will fit back there.

How often will she really use it in a 365 day year. If the answer is not at least every 3rd day, then ask her the question " would you let me buy a $1900.00 LED tv put it in the den and only watch it maybe 1 to 2 times a week tops?" I think you know the answer to that question.

Tell your wife that you need to buy a new X5 for that option. Because that's the only way it's going to happen... And to be honest, I have the third row seat option on my '11 x5 and i've only used it twice in the year I've had the X5... Once to transport 1 extra soldier to training, and once a few months ago to get 6 people to the train. Needless to say, the people in the middle seats had to scoot their seats all the way up so the adults in the back had any sort of leg room...
Also as spyderdoc said, it' also adds the self leveling suspension to the car, which your's wouldn't have if it even got the retrofit to work. Your looking at easily spending 2-3 times what it would have cost to have gotten the option in the beginning. So, approximately 4-6k just to get third row option in your SAV? Not worth it. Trade your X5 in for a new one with the third row.
