Pet Peeve - Doors don't unlock!
Is it just me or is it a pain to always have to hit the unlock all doors button after I turn off my car so my wife can get our kid out of the backseat?
Is there a solution? I want the doors to lock while driving so I can't turn that off. I had Patryk program my car this weekend and he said he programmed the car to unlock all doors when the car is off, but it doesn't work. I have keyless entry if that helps. What am I missing? Any help greatly appreciated. |

What do you do with any other car on the market when the doors are locked?
If you don't like having to unlock a locked door, change the setting so that they don't automatically lock when you start to drive. |

Sounds like the "unlock when put in park" feature is another one that BMW didn't want to give us. My pet peeve, and what I want, is the side mirrors to fold in when I shut the car off and open when I start it.
Your issue sounds like something that can be fixed with coding. Since I haven't messed with mine yet I'll let someone else comment. My only hesitation on re-coding is that it may be wiped away when I take it in for service which has a reflash as a service bulletin.

I've just developed the following habit in the X5:
Park Parking brake Unlock Ignition off Fold mirrors But yeah, a lot of buttons to push when parking. Throw in the tailgate button on occasion too.

Just pull the handle twice and the door will unlock/open. No need to hit the unlock button. OR go into your iDrive and shut off the feature that locks them in the first place.

And I like the doors to lock automatically as we drive off personally, so why would I disable it? It really isn't that hard to get in the habit of hitting the unlock button on the dash....

The 'pull the handle twice' thing should work. Its some kind of quirk on BMWs. It was that way on my '03 E53 too. I always had to explain that to new passengers in my car who thought that they had to stay there forever.
Perhaps they want you to confirm that you "really really want to get out!"? Interesting on my '12 X6, I have to pull the handle twice on the Outside when its locked now too (comfort access). I had comfort access on my E70 and I only had to pull once. When I first read the title of this thread, I thought it would be about a problem I occasionally had with my E53: my driver door wouldn't unlock at all when I shut off the car. Doing a 'lock cycle' with the button on the console would usually fix it, but I had to go out through the passenger door once. Nice! |

assuming patrys coded it properly and that it's a possible function to unlock when the car is off....do you have comfort access? if yes, are you completely turning the car off (press start button twice or press and hold)?
