Sport Package vs. M Sport Package
What is your preference, and why? I realize I'm soliciting mostly subjective replies as the M Sport, at least IMO, is mostly a cosmetic change from
the standard Sport Package (aside from 2011's that came standard with Adaptive Drive). Backstory - I've been searching for an 2012 or 2013 50i for awhile now - I have a long list of requirements. One of them is Sport Package, however there are far more M Sport equipped X5's on the market than those with just the Sport Package. Is the M Sport package really that much more popular/desirable? If yes, I'm curious why? I like the M Sport, I guess I just like the Sport Package more, for the following reasons: -I like the black accents (wheel arches, front/rear bumpers) -I like the running boards - not available on the M Sport -I would prefer having the heated steering wheel here in Seattle (drove one with it, liked it, especially my wife) - only seen this on 2013 M Sports, not 2012's -Wheels...I prefer style 336 over 333 Are these reasons above the same reasons you like the M Sport more? Everything is painted body color, don't care about running boards, you get the ///M steering wheel? Not trying to start an argument but I am curious, especially knowing there are a lot of M Sport owners on this forum. -Jeff |

I love the painted arches, the 20" 333 wheels, I like the painted running boards.. Thus, I like the M-Sport.
I don't know if I'd like the heated wheel, as I don't have it. But it doesn't bother me at all in Seattle.

M Sport package also opens up the M Performance Package option. Changes the engine performance somewhat (about a Stage 1 tune), adds M Perf exhaust, and the exhaust outlets are trapezoid and black instead of chrome.
And I have the heated steering wheel with paddle shifters and the thicker rim. M Sport is more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. And as a used car the value probably doesn't stick so you should get just as good of a deal. |

Yes, you have a 2013 so you're fortunate to have the ///M steering wheel with heat. 2011 and 2012 M Sport's w/ Cold Weather Package do not get the heated steering wheel. Agreed, buying used the M Sport is no more $ than the Sport model. It's not a $ factor….I'm just not finding that many Sport models….they're either M Sport or no Sport Package at all. Any other input from anyone else? |

The M Sport looks quite a bit more appealing visually than the regular sport. You ditch all the plastic trim and get painted pieces. The wheels are nicer, also. Plus the steering wheels is perfect.

A couple of things. The 2012 M Sport Package came standard with 19" 233 rims:
http://euroactiveparts.com/images/223%20Wheels.jpg The 20" were an option - on the M Sport option. Also, the M Performance package which is the equivalent of a mild stage 1 tune is only available on the 2013. I bought a BMS Stage 1 for $350 and love it. That's all. Carry on.

Please share more information on the Eisenmann exhuast. Are they just tips? I was under the impression that the Eisenmann system would only work on the x5m, not the x5 50 with m package. I have an '11 e70 with m package that I would love to put an Eisemann system on.
