completed bench tune, mhd stage 1+ , vrsf DP. Going on 2 months now. Super smooth power delivery, better efficiency, awesome turbo sounds, no more lag, faster and better than stock

Cons. Exhaust smell at lights and traffic if wind is blowing towards you. Goes away with windows closed. Can be annoying. Pretty sure im just getting used to it now.

Considering flashing to stage 2.
Awesome feedback regarding your mods and the cons mentioned regarding the stg of the tune you're utilizing. Do you have any logs?

What version are you talking about? I haven't updated the Stg 1+ as I feel the current version I have doesn't feel too jumpy

Mine is the latest version updated. Initially the new revised S1 was jumpy too, but after following the advice of Justin, i’ve done the adaption and S1 drives like a charm.
So what I did was change to S1+ map and did the adaption again, it was better but I it’s wasn't smooth so gonna change back to S1 maps

Do you have videos of the exhaust? I would totally go Stage 2 if I had DP installed.

Hey guys, I haven't created any exhaust vids or data logging. I'll work on them this weekend and try to post them up!

What I can tell you is that I drive in Cali traffic 80% of the time (primary work car) . stage 1+ is so much smoother than stock and the throttle response is perfect. Not too jumpy and very predictable. The exhaust sound is good. 1st-4th has a nice sound and rpms over 4.5 k really start to hear it. If you shift over 5k, you get cool exhaust cracking on the upshift. If you down shift from 4th gear and lower you hear fun burbles and pops. Keep in mind they arent too loud.

Highway cruising is also nice. You can still hear the exhaust. But no drone and subtle. Same with city driving. However when windows down you can really hear the turbo spool.

Acceleration is also massively improved along with throttle response. Wish I could race my m3 because I swear its faster to 60. Gone are the lag I used to have in 1st gear.

Minus the random exhaust smell here and there. I feel like this truck should of come from factory like this.

Btw. DP install was super difficult. Getting to the turbo side and unbolting the clamp was extremely hard. We had to basically lower the front subframe and lower the engine a few inches.

Would love to see some vids of the exhaust and data logging. I read this thread last night and I am very interested in a tune for my 2011 X5 35i.

You should get it! It's well worth the money. I have been going back and forth with the downpipe so maybe the video will help. I'm already invested into a Cobb AP otherwise I would have went with MHD. I see that Twisted Tuning is semi-local to me so I may hit them up if I get a DP and want some custom tunes.

Yes you should. Won’t regret at all! I’ve left my Cobb collecting dust in the cupboard ever since!

I'm an authorized Cobb Protuner/Dealer. But as great as Cobb Software is for other brands they support that i tune. The offerings for BMW are lacking heavily. Go MHD.

Updated the Stg 1+ OTS flash, I like it compared to the older versions of the OTS. I'm curious if I should try out the Stg 2 but as my E70 is the DD I'm content!

I've tried s2 and s2+. E70 is wife's DD. Both ran good so far for quite a few months. I settled on s2. Love the daily drivability on s2. Feels very linear and very responsive even before boost.

Btw for everyone, gap down your plugs to .023" to max of .025". Makes a world of difference on these engines. I've tried quite a few gaps. Found the sweet spot to be .018 - .02 range for aggressive and .023 - .025 range for smoothness and better at cold starts.

stock gap is around .031". makes teh car feel slugish and blahhhh

Has anyone dyno'd their 35i yet? I'm curious what kind of power the stage 2 or 2+ is putting down with intake, Dow pipes, etc.

There is a member here who did. Dyno is FBO with Stage 1 piggyback. Stage 2 will yield a bit higher numbers.

Yeah but he's not running MHD either so I'm curious if there would be a difference

So I selected the stage 2 tune (91 oct) and under the "options" you can select, use stock catted downpipes. Should I have selected that? I've not read about anyone talking about selecting this.
I'm not sure what the exact phrase it said, because it did it late last night. I just wanted so see if anyone can shed any light on this or seen this as an option. I can attach pictures later today when I get home.

Well do you have the stock catted down pipes on the car or have you switched to something else?

My X5 is all stock. There has been a few conversations on this post about a few people using the stage 2 with stock cats. It was never talked about going under options and selecting that. I was just trying to clear up any confusion if this was supposed to be selected when running stock cats.

Every bolt on mod if recommended. And it is recommended for a reason. I have 2 n55s. X5 and 335i.

I've done stage 2 and E30 on stock parts and monitored my cars heavily. Both ran great. I added a catless dp.on my 335i. Haven't noticed a big gain.

Now if you are doing pulls constantly light to light, like 4th and 5th gear pulls, tracking the car, etc, get the recommended mods. If you are occasionally doing a pull or using the tune mostly as.daily drivability improvement for general acceleration, no harm.

Monitor your car for A few months, see how it acts, if it's unhappy, adjust accordingly and pull back your tune.

Awaiting new head unit for the E70, once doing so I'll hook up the MHD through the monitor in the vehicle since it technically is an android tablet. My buddy in Florida has already done it so it should be a nicer way to monitor everything OEM style. Then I'll flash to the Stg 2 and truly have my monitoring of the vehicle in great visualization!

That's a great idea. I was thinking about that a bit with the recent thread on the Avin head unit.
