Exclamation **Does this look Totaled? *PICS* T Boned Yesterday in X5

I want to know if you guys think this is totaled

Son of a _____ ran a red light me and my girlfriend almost got killed, somehow walked away from it, I swerved at the last second and was able to spread us out enough so he did not T-Bone me in the passenger side door instead he got the whole front side of the car and into the engine

This thing was immaculately taken care of Jet Black 2011 BMW X5 with Diesel engine and I JUST put new tires on and paid for alignment at BMW which is not cheap

The car KBB is about 50K, but I bought it 0 down so I might be screwed because the car is worth less than what I owe, by about 2-3K which I'm sure the GAP insurance will cover, but now I'm out of 20K in payments and have to start over?

Anybody been through this before?

I just want to see if anybody here knows if this thing is totaled so I can start looking into options before it takes a week to find out from the insurance adjuster!!

Thank God, you and your gf escaped this one...it really is bad. it seems totaled to me. the way it works is, if the insurance company can fix it for less than what its book value is, then they do, otherwise, they just write it off.

From the outside it obviously looks bad but you never know. If the frame is still straight and there's not much internal mechanical damage it may be saved. Your car is still worth a good amount so to total it out is going to take a lot. Either way like the others said, your girl and you are ok so the car will get fixed or you'll get another one.

Luckily you guys walked away.
If there is any frame damage, the insurance will write it off cause of safety issues.
Good luck!

So hard to tell. If there is significant engine damage, along with the structural parts of the unibody, then probably. The tall truck really did some damage, in areas that would normally be protected by the bumpers.

I'm gonna say probably so. This was mine only 3 months old with 3,000 miles on it. Car turned in front of me as I was entering an intersection. Total was $18,000. I had a hood, fender, 2 wheels, front bumper, bottom molding under door, tie rod and upper ball mount, strut, complete headlight assembly (which is $4,000 alone!) no engine or radiator damage. Their insurance company was horrible to deal with. If you want any tips from what I learned, PM and I'll fill you in on how to keep from getting screwed. Also sue for loss of value if they don't total it. I got 7K for loss of value on the damage I had. Initially her insurance sent me a check for $3,100 LV and said that it was a non negotiable figure until I sued them. Took them 10 days to settle.....

2013 is not going to be much different, and you can snag a great deal on a 2012 - there is $4,500 Eco Credit, plus dealers are very aggressive with those. We have a few that were in loaner status, and we are giving them away!

Agree with above; I got a very sweet deal on a 2012 X5d a couple of weeks ago. I was told allocations are scarce for the 2012 at this point so you might have to settle for one on a lot somewhere. You'll probably have to be flexible with colors and options (not to mention dealer location) if you find one but that's where the really good deals are.

Angry

Thanks for all the replys guys

Right now I'm looking at 19,000 in damage. The adjuster is telling me that he wants to put on a few parts (replace a few parts) to see if the engine turns on, right now the ALternator is just hanging, there is a crack in the timing belt cover, and the upper part of the unibody frame has to be re-welded/

He is saying we need to replace the radiator, alternator, and timing belt cover, intercooler, etc. to see if the car will start. They are willing to spend a couple thousand on it to see if it will turn on, if it does not he will total it, if it turns on then he won't basically.

Is this guy giving me the run around? Should I be pushing for this thing to be totaled? I definitely need some tips and advice.

Also, I was hit 6 months ago (rear ended) with about 6K in damage. Can someobdy run a car fax for me ? If you have a membership

I want to see if that diminished the value at all ... also turns out the driver did not have valid insurance so I'm going to have to fight with my own insurance company to get it totaled.

Just because it runs, doesn't mean it will be ok. I would fight it. From what you are saying is damaged already, it's going to be a lot of $. Someone who runs a car fax later will know it was damaged twice. Even a dealer on trade in.
I also find it hard to believe the white one above had $18k and yours is only $19k. Yours has much more structural and engine damage than what skalberi aboves had. I think yours is looking at more $. Are they using factory new parts?
Good luck.

Ya I agree. Mine was mostly cosmetic with a couple suspension components. So I'm betting your X5d should be totaled. Especially if they have to weld the unibody. I would fight I have it totaled rather than piece it back together and have alignment and mechanical problems down the road.

IMO: you need to do whatever it takes to make sure the car is totalled. The car and especially the engine will never be the same. If the guy does not have insurance - Sue him. Hire a good lawyer to get what you need to get from wherever to compensate you for your loss. Do not just take what they dish out at you - fight it all the way.
