Smoke from under hood, bearing noise from turbo.
Was sitting in the parking lot with the engine idling while I was making phone calls, all of a sudden i see smoke coming from under the hood. Shut off the car, open the hood, the turbo is making a grinding bearing noise and there is a bunch of oil where it connects to the intake. Good thing the car was still driveable, so I took it straight to my mechanics shop. Its a 2012 x5 5.0, im sure the bill is going to be substantial.

you can buy a turbo rebuild kit on ebay for 400 bucks for both.
the labor to do it is where they will get you, you can do it yourself in about 5 hours or so, they will charge 10+, and tons more for new turbos, unless they let you buy a rebuild cartridge which is easy to get.. |
