Broken Gear Selector???
This morning when I got into my car (2013 x5) to get to work, I noticed it was really awkward going into D, there was play in the selector, and also trying to put it into m/s mode was difficult almost like I had to force it a little. Just now during my lunch break I tried to check it out some more and same issue, feels lose like as if something is broken. Should I think about replacing just the selectyor lever or the whole shifter assembly? I know I wont know until I take it apart. But does anybody have any experience with this issue.

Sorry can’t help you with the selector issue but i can say that it’s not possible to change just the selector, it comes in a whole unit. Which is easy to swap out, plug and play , no coding required.

I replaced mine a few years back, just found one from a similar model from a junkyard one state over, and they shipped it to me, though I believe it was from a Non- Msport model as it had no Msport logo under the clear part (mine is Msport). I think I paid like $220 or so. Not terribly hard but I used a DIY on here somewhere (or on Xoutpost maybe) which I recommend. The new/used one has worked fine since.
