Trouble with E70 CIC Head unit
I bought a 2012 BMW X5, and got a deep discount by taking the car with radio issues. The seller indicated that the previous head unit "burned out" so he had to get a new one. He said the new one was not programmed, and hence why it wasn't working. He left the parts for the old radio in the car. I took it to a BMW specialist for a pre-purchase inspection and they also reiterated that the new head unit just needed programming for ~$200.
After purchasing the car I took it to another BMW shop near me, and they told me I needed a 'combox' and showed me code "00E147 - Combox emergency call, body CAN line fault." They also told me that I needed a new amp. I called up the previous shop and they told me it might need more than programming.....I asked the seller and he tells me he never had sound. So now I'm very very confused. The receipt for the replacement radio shows that it was bought from a junkyard and is a non-nav unit, but the old radio model appears to be a NAV unit. What is a combox and how is it different from the head unit? How can I figure out what I need for this car? Might I be able to do some of the work myself? I was told the combox install might be difficult 2012 BMW X5 E70, XDrive 35I Prod Date: 05/2011 Old Radio: CI925720101 Replacement Radio: IC 52029(from receipt) View post on imgur.com |

You'd need something like this: https://www.fcpeuro.com/ SKU: BMW-84109257160
or this: https://www.bimmer-tech.net/category...ombox-retrofit The Combox Extends the multimedia capabilities of your BMW. It lets you stream audio from a smartphone or MP3 player via Bluetooth. It also allows pairing up multiple devices via Bluetooth and gives access to reading SMS messages, email, reminders, etc. Also provides USB audio playback for iPhone/iPod devices. |
