Ok, First off.. ROBNY.. Good on you!
I finally found time to get with my exhaust guy. We pulled the whole system down(so to not have to cut the tail section off).
Opened up the case and pulled both resonator sections from it. replaced both with straight pipes..... BAM ! I am so glad that I never spent the crazy prices for an exhaust system.

The sound matches the attitude of the vehicle. hardly notice it at in town speeds, Hit the M button....WOT. Oh hell yeah ! Makes you look around for the supercar that must be coming up on you hard.

Thanks for sharing Rob.
I'll post pics shortly, and a sound clip. Haven't got a sound clip prepared yet.

Anyone on the fence... go get this done.

I've been seriously considering this mod, but haven't found the right shop in Nor Cal to get it done. Do you mind posting or pm'ing the contact info for your exhaust guy? Thanks!

How easy does the exhaust come off and go back on. I assume you have to cut it off and weld it back together. Is this a diffucult process? I am not going to do it myslef, I just want to give who ever I hire some pointers from people who have already finished their mod

You will have to cut it other wise its a very long exhaust pipe from the downpies to the muffler.
My advice is cut it like 4" from the muffler. Good luck.

would you recommend two straight pipes or the way you did it. I would like it loud but only when you get on it but this is still my everyday driver/family car....great work by the way i showed alot of people this and they thought it was excellent

Thank you. I would recommend only straight pipe where the valves are so once you have youer car on the M mode you can really hear it.

What size pipe and alloy do you need to complete this, any other materials needed?

At least three feet of 2 1/2 stainless steel pipe and of course welding machine.

What's a welder... I'm joking, what a fair price for this? Thanks for the quick reply

LOL! I got mine for free. GLWS! People who have installed an aftermarket exhaust are generally looking to get rid of theirs for nothing or next to nothing. I took mine to a scrap yard and got 50 bucks for it rather than deal with the hassle of shipping.

Anyone who does this exhaust mod, you will probably want proper tips. I have 4 3.8" black chrome high temp exhaust tips that I bought to install, and am now thinking maybe I won't. Contact me if interested. They are the ones sold by Cyba. I can save you a few bucks and a week off the shipping time.

Hey, everyone. Sorry for acting like "flake of the year". I haven't had My X since shortly after the work on the exhaust was done.
While removing the entire exhaust was a bit more work, I was able to see an oil leak coming from the upper front of the engine. This area is not visible without the lower cover removed.
When I called my Service advisor and told of the oil leak, I was fearful of it being a front seal. Turns out to be an upper oil pan gasket, for whatever reason they still have it being repaired.
Rob, may be correct. Keeping the smaller resonator inline with the non M exhaust pipe will likely be a better choice in the long run.
On several occasions my wife drove it in town and on the freeway.. Mind you she is not a car chick, couldn't care less in fact. I never received a complaint of unpleasant exhaust noise. So, it passed that test.
I also noticed a torn front sway bar link boot. So doing the work, at the level that it was done, did yield the catch of a couple issues that may have slipped by me.

The work was done in Petaluma. The Muffler Works. The entire job, start to finish was shy of three hours, less than 300.00.

Might be interested in the tips. Can you PM me pics and a price. Or email to acm3@gci.net

THanks

Just got my car back today. It sounds great, even the wife approves. I would say 3x as loud but more important you have more turbo and exotic sound. 600 well spent on this mod. The non M mode is more or less the same as M mode before but M mode now sounds like it should. More or less the exhaust sounds like it should have from the factory. No drone too, maybe a little if you are going 90( on cruise control) and going up a good incline. Hehe
