Have the tint removed...it only negatively affects your vision. The Huper Optik film isn't dark...it just blocks UV-B rays which are the rays that make your car like a convection oven. It is amazing stuff...your car will be literally 30 degrees cooler in summer than with tint.

Afternoon all, I noticed this on my X5 the other day for the first time. I took it in to BMW of The Woodlands and they said there was no fix for it, rather the entire door panel would need to be replaced ($2200). Have any of you had any luck finding just the handle part or any other suitable and less expensive fix?

I keep my cars inside most of the time, but this seems excessive that it would melt in the Texas heat.

I had that melting hand bar before on my E53, Took it to the dealer, they denied it because it falls under wear and tear.

Resurrecting an old thread, but noticed this happening in mine as well. Also all the other "rubberized" trim parts seem to be peeling. Guess I will have to order some interior trim pieces soon.

I bought an 08 4.8i E70, It has the same problem exactly, I was at the dealer yesterday for brake pads and he told me that extended warranty doesn't cover those items, he asked me for 120$ to fix a new one, including labor. is it good deal? anybody got the the part number of this piece?
BTW, I have seen another 08 E70 with exactly the same problem, annoying problem.
I am egyptian currently in city of Doha, temperatures reach 55 C in summer her,, cant really blame the germans for it.

Have the same problem, Going to have it replaced soon. Mine was not from heat. Its just the composition of the rubber deteriorating. Perhaps some of the rubber batches they made are not mixed correctly, and not lasting the test of time.

IT this the 1 and only time this has happened or are there other parts that this has happened to?

Could have been just parked the right way with something directing light (remember burning ants as a kid)..

I'd also consider a window tint that blocks UV, not only for this but to reduce fading, I know when I lived in the desert southwest I always had some sort of tint for fading and heat control, dang stearing wheel would burn your hands in a 110+ day sfter sitting in the sun for a while, and don't forget the old lady wearing shorts on a leather seat, you only do that once. lol
