Question Is It a New Dropdown Tailgate

Last week; I had my 2008 X5 repaired and the lower tailgate (dropdown) was replaced with a new part.
Please look at the attached photos and tell me if it looks a new tailgate to you.
A BMW dealer said the inside panel was definitely not replaced; not sure on the outer panel which is painted.

Why not ask the dealer to provide you with the part order paperwork?

Receipt

I asked them to let me see the old part on the same day when my car was delivered but they said it was already recycled. I will ask in the morning for the receipt.

All photos posted above were taken on the same day the car was delivered to me.

For a "new," tailgate, thats a dirty tailgate. Luckily in some states, the failed/replaced part MUST be given back to the customer if requested. You should check your local state laws.

My guess is your SA misspoke and told you they're replacing the 'tailgate' (in a very general sense) when in reality they replaced a small bracket or latch.

Get a copy of the service invoice and it should list any and all parts that were replaced.

When you received your invoice (whether you paid for it out of pocket or it was covered under warranty), all part numbers down to the screw will be listed.
