How to remove trim piece on driver's side dash?

The foot light on the driver's side is not working (apparently, for quite sometime - I just noticed recently). I assumed a bad bulb and took the light off from the footwell knee trim plate, only to find the wiring harness missing (i.e. nothing connected to the light bulb). When I replaced all interior OEM bulbs with LED earlier this year, I clearly recall having a working footwell light.

Later, my car needed an evap replacement for which the entire dash had to be taken off. My guess is that the dealer forgot to connect the wiring harness to the footwell light when the put everything back together. I took the plastic trim plate off in hopes of finding the wire, but couldn't find it. I'd like to remove the leather trim plate (marked in the picture) to get better visibility.

Can anyone help me out with ideas/pics on how to remove the leather trim piece?
