E70 X5 Wheel Centerbore

I need to get a set of wheels bored...are the hubs for the e70 74.0 or 74.1mm? I've seen both in conflicting threads.

74.0mm. If you are boring X6 (or X5M or X6M) wheels to fit on the rears of an E70 X5, you need to bore those out to 74.1mm

Why would the type of wheel make a difference? It's all going on the same size hub so it should be consistent?

The center bore on the X6/X6M/X6M wheels are 72.5mm so they won't fit on E70 X5 with boring.

That is why I would bore out the wheels to either 74.0mm or 74.1mm, I just need confirmation on which.

Yes. I just did this last week. I had OEM style 215 rears from an x5m bored to fit my 2011 x5 5.0. Worked like a charm. Cost was $160 @ a machine shop.

I could not find a wheel shop in Boston capable of boring out a wheel. Machine shop was an hourly rate.

Good deal for you.

Just ask them how they do it. If you hear 'router', run away.

P.S. I paid $65/wheel @ local machine shop.

Just a note for this thread that it is important to have a true round and centered hub center for wheel balancing.

Most wheel balancing machines use the hub center rather than the lugs so the center needs to be true or the wheel won't balance.

People that enlarge the holes by hand with dremels, grinders, etc and don't get it right likely ruin the wheel (or would have to have it machined out to an even larger size to get them balanced in the future).

I thought about it but ended up just paying the local shop to do it. It was a high end wheel shop and they charged $40/wheel. Perhaps I could have found a cheaper place but they also gave me a discount on the mount/balance afterwards so it all worked out pretty well.
