N63 Exhaust question - OEM front half

Any help here would be appreciated. In the attached diagram, pic, why are the front "silencers" different styles and dimensions on the N63?

I presume neither is a secondary cat? (I hope?)

I ask because in the process of building my custom exhaust, we are getting some weird exhaust tones/pulses, and are going to start modifying components via a process of elimination - and these front silencers have come into question.

Thanks!

Neither is a cat based on price alone from a few online sources, plus they are listed as "Center mufflers," in the descriptions.

That said, since they are different sizes, one could assume it's for addressing different harmonics. Which is what you are trying to address.

Yeah, that is what we are thinking. Interesting to say the least. Going to try an H pipe to balance some of the harmonics first. If that fails, those front silencers are the next issue. Really wish I knew what those two designs were addressing and how they work in concert with the suitcase...

Another option I'm looking into is just adding Supersprint's non-resonated front X-pipe.
