P0022 & p0018
2007 X5 4.8i
P0022: Stored, A Samshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 2 P0018: Pending, Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 2 Sensor A I brought the car with the above error codes, then I follow the instructions here to adjust the timing: 1. I didn't replace any parts as I see the timing chain is still under strong tension. 2. After first adjustment, I turned the engine twice and found the timing still off. So I adjusted again and turned twice again, and after that was ok. 3. One thing I notice is the timing marks on camshafts are not perfectly aligned, after using the timing tool (brought from Amazon). It's like this as in the attached image. Both sides are like this, but only bank2 is giving the code. The problem is after driving a few times, these codes come back again. I can delete the code, but it still comes back. So I guess I didn't fix the root of timing off. Any idea what shall I do next? Thanks for your time! Jirong |

After half a year research and try, I am still having the P0022 code. Yesterday I switched two sensors in the bank2, and got 4 error codes including P0021, P0348, P0019, P0024. I fade up and ended up ordered two new Camshaft Position Sensors, plan to replace both of them.
One problem I notice is when I cold start the car, it will idle above 1k for a minute, shaking, and then cool down to 500~600 rpm. The drive is normal. |
