Nappa Leather Dash Option

I just got the new brochure from my dealer and low and behold one of the options in there was for the Nappa Leather Dash. In the package it showed delayed availability on the 35i but did not show delayed availability on the 50i. I asked my sales manager today and his system was down at the time but he is going to look into it first thing Monday morning to see if they can add it to my 50i that I have on order. My guess is that it will probably be delayed in the US until 2009 production starts in October/November

I think you are referring to option 4M5. I've considered this option for my 50i and then decided against it...

I have no idea. Price is really not an issue for me. I couldn't care less if it this option would be another 2000 bucks. I was more concerned with the leather on the door panels (e.g. it rains you open the doors and the leather get nice and wet...). Don't get me wrong, depending on your leather choice, the leather covered dashboard can look pretty sharp...

I was just curious because my dealer was going to try and find out on Monday for me if it can even be ordered here yet. If it was $1200US or less than I would probably add on. Don't think it is worth much more than that.

I've seen the European price for it but have no idea how much it is in Canada or the US. According to the German option catalog, this option is 1689.08 EUR before tax and 2010.00 EUR after tax and is listed as an option on all four models (xDrive35i, xDrive50i, xDrive30d and xDrive35d).

If you do find out how much this option goes for, please post it here.

hmm lets see:

Sport package upgrade (for the 50i only) is listed as 1008.40 EUR before and 1200.00 EUR after tax. This includes the shadow line, sport seats with memory function, anthracite headliner, titanium style kidney grills, style 258 rims with 9Jx19 255/50R19 runflats front and 10Jx19 285/45R19 runflats rear.

You have to remember that each country has different individual options included in these 'packages' (e.g. the US sport package or premium package contains different individual options than the Canadian sport package or premium package!).

Here are a few other individual items that may help you better:

Adaptive drive (includes Dynamic Drive and EDC) 2764.71 EUR before and 3290.00 EUR after tax.

Active steering 1092.44 EUR before and 1300.00 EUR after tax.

Self Leveling Suspension 663.87 EUR before and 790.00 EUR after tax.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't and you can think of a different option that is listed as an individual cost and you know the exact price for this option, ask and I'll see if it is listed in this catalog.

It looks like Nappa Leather Dash is almost twice as expensive as Active Steering and that option is $1400 in US. Based on this it seems that Nappa Dash will probably be much closer to $2k than $1k.

Not sure if the look of leather on the dashboard and doors is really worth $2k... In my case, I still have to drive two little kids around once in a blue moon when we'll take the X6 for extended drives, so having leather on the doors is probably not a good idea. However, the leather does add an extra touch of elegance to the interior of the car...

Well, let us know what your dealer finds out

If the ratio of options in the UK to the same options in Canada applies, the extended leather will cost Cdn$2,200. Options in the US are 12% to 15% less than in Canada, so you could probably assume around US$1,900. Be interesting to see what it actually comes out at.

Based on the pricing for other models, I would expect the X6 full leather option to cost $3500.

M6 Coupe - Full leather with dash = $3500

M coupe with extended leather/console = $1800

There is no way a leather dash for the X6 will be $1200.

Remember extended leather is just the console area. Ful leather with dash is called full leather option.

The X6 50i is available on BMW Germany website configurator www.bmw.de.

The extended leather option is listed for 2,010 Euros = $3,175

I think that price includes Euros VAT tax 19%...if so, then the price excluding tax = $2570

"Leather instrument panel" in the UK is £1,370. That's US$2,730. But most accessories in the UK cost 15% to 20% more than they do in the US, so the US price will likely be around $2,000. "Leather instrument panel" is the only extended leather option listed. Is there another option for leather dash?

I think the option will price the same as other models.

No reason for BMW to discount it. It is all marketing. If you are crazy enough to pay $2k, you will pay $3500 as well. In either case the option is incredibly expensive for what you will get/use.

I also find it odd anyone would want a leather dash in a truck.

if the partial leather in an M coupe is $1800. Why would it be the same in a larger vehicle?

I spoke to my dealer today about the option and they are still waiting to hear back from the production manager at the plant but are guessing it will not be available until they change to 2009 production. I asked him about pricing and he was not sure but seemed to think that if it is just leather dash that pricing would be between $1200-1800 but if it was dash and door panels that pricing would probably be in the neighborhood of $1800-2200. At this point, I really don't care and do not think the option is worth.

Quite frankly, I think the 50i should come standard with the leather dash since you are paying a substantial premium over the 35i.

Agreed, but at the same time u're paying $3,500 for the M cars like M5 & M6 which should come with full leather not even a question. guess they're just too cheap. at one point we'd hope it'll be an option for us in US but now i'm 50/50 on it. sure it looks great(the way it should be) but can live without, maybe...

Me too, but I find it really hard to think of the X6 as a "truck"! Even the X5 is a crossover -- unibody construction on a beefed-up 5-series car platform -- and in coupe form it seems even less truck-like.

Whatever. I don't care if it's a freaking fire engine, I still lust after that leather dash.
