Just want to get a clear pic of what I am up to.
Please post or repost your MPG experience with your X6!! On this topic. Urban, Highway, Mixed, smooth or aggresive driving, cool or plain mad. . .on all models you guys own. (Just tested a Touareg V-6 225 HP last weekend, and emptied a full tank after 400 km!!) |

Around town I get 16.5MPG with the 3.5.
Highway I get 19-22. I have seen the car get up to 22-25MPG on flat roads. I have 2k miles on the clock. The 15-20MPG sticker on the window is accurate. With mixed driving, I can get about 350-400 miles on a tank. With all highway I can get 460-500 miles per tank. I fill up every 10-14 days. 400KM = about 248 miles. I have a 22 gallon tank. At that rate I would only get about 11MPG. Were you driving the car hard?

chuck, on the highway I had top 110-124 mph, for about 150 miles, plus some other 30 miles in urban traffic, bumper to bumper. The computer showed on highway an average of 17 MPG. . .and the Touareg had only 225 HP, but it was a V6.

Strange that you get from a gas engine a similar mileage with this diesel one I drove. I guess it's the speed. . .I know that turbo-diesels should have a much better mileage than petrols, maybe 3-5 liters less in consumption. .I used the tiptronic gear box though. and in normal position, not sport.

akraptor,
first, you WERE driving hard (we in Europe are more used to that than in the US as far as my experience goes. So for them 80 MPH(130kmh) on the freeway is "speeding" already, as we have it as a normal freeway speed limit. You cannot compare their driving and your driving, therefore this thread is almost useless, sorry BUT on the other hand, Touareg's drink a lot of diesel, that is for sure. To keep it simple for you, by your driving style you could be have a consumption around 13-15 l/km in 35i model, and in 35d I would expect 9-12 l/km. All-in-all, the difference betwenn 35d and 35i shoul be around 3 liters per 100 km, what in Slovakia would be payed off after driven about 80.000 km in that car. For my that fact (I do max 20.000 km a year), plus a long wait list for 35d made the decision to order 35i. Hope it helped you. Peter |

I have ordered the X6 35D, I have test driven the Car twice now, first time the demo was brand new 20 miles on the clock, after 100 miles it was averaging 30MPG, the second time (same car) with 400 miles on the clock, I covered 60 miles at 36MPG, now thats normal cruise/driving out of town.
I have the P-Tronic box to go on it when it arrives jumping the power to 710NM/365BHP, this box is fitted to my 635D Sport now and transforms the car into a rocket ship and gives 3/5 MPG improved economy. I expect 2/4 MPG improvement from the X635D after the first 1000 miles. |
